Committee on ethics Asistencial (CEA) of the IDIAP Jordi Gol da doubts ethical they face health professionals in its consultations.

Spain, March 2012.- which most consulted are the medical family the most common topics of consultation are the treatments doctors and confidentiality the CEA was created in 2008 by a joint initiative of the Catalan Health Institute (ICS) and the Institute for research in primary care (IDIAP Jordi Gol).

The aims of the CEA is to ensure the protection and respect of the rights and obligations of users and professionals, offer advice, from an ethical point of view, in clinical, health and organizational decision-making, and develops guidelines and recommendations in those cases or situations that may generate conflicts of ethical kind.

In the 3 years of operation, those who have been most consulted have been (23) family physicians, being 70% women, but there are also nurses (4), (2) social workers, pediatricians (2), administrative attention to the (1) patient, and patients themselves (1).

on what query?

The CEA annually receives a score of consultations.

The most common are on treatment (28%) and confidentiality (24%), but there are also consultations on medical history (11%), on the paper advanced care directives (5%), harassment (3%), ill-treatment (3%), or on witnesses of Jehovah (5%).

how much it takes to respond?

They have a way of working protocolarizada and give answer to all queries that come to them, either by way of urgency (takes 15 days to answer as much) or through non-urgent, that it takes a month to respond.
