A study of the Hospital Provincial de Castellón concludes that people who smoke are more dependent and indecisive.

Castellón, 2011-October the people addicted to nicotine are more dependent and indecisive to that which do not consume tobacco, according to collect an investigation led by the head of the programme of serious dual pathology of the Provincial Hospital, Gonzalo Haro.

For this study, which exposes these days in the II International Congress of Dual pathology to be held in Barcelona, have been analysed 356 patients consuming alcohol or drugs, amongst those who were smokers and people who not consumed tobacco.

The Provincial researchers have shown that non-smokers tend to be more independent in making decisions that the people addicted to tobacco.

“ Smokers are most undecided, dependent on the opinion of others when making decisions, have greater difficulty to live alone or are more insecure ”, said Dr. Haro.

It is common that people who consume drugs submitted an antisocial personality disorder, but in the case of the selected group of non-smokers none of them presented this disorder, so it can be said not suffering from antisocial personality protects from smoking tobacco.

Another fact that reveals this study is that they were not cannabis users although to submit an abuse or dependence on substances such as cocaine, heroin or alcohol, thereby demonstrating the important relationship between nicotine and cannabis unit.

According to Dr. Haro, this study can be a new starting point for further research to clarify whether the fact of having a more independent personality is a protective factor in the consumption of nicotine, which can be important in the prevention and treatment of smoking.
