. Researchers of the laboratory of Biochemistry at the Faculty of Dentistry in Piracicaba (FOP-Unicamp) have found that night brushing is more efficient in the preservation of dentin and enamel. The study was conducted by Sandro Carvalho Kusano, with guidance of Lívia Maria Andaló Tenuta, with collaboration of Jaime Cury and Altair Del Bel Cury.

to perform the study, the authors had 12 volunteers, who were accompanied during 14 days. Were evaluated the mineral loss in dental enamel and dentin of volunteers after the buildup of plaque and the exhibition of eight sugar

times a day.

the results showed that brushing your teeth with toothpaste fluoretado once a day, in the mornings, reduces mineral loss in 42% of the dental enamel. Already brushing during nighttime decrements by 58%. To the dentin, brushing in the mornings reduces mineral loss in 19% and 37% night

.

are still unknown as to why the action of fluorine during nighttime and morning are different. However, the researchers believe that this difference is due to a prolonged retention of fluorine after brushing at night because of the decrease in production of saliva that occurs during this period. Fluoride has the function of remineralizar losses that occur during the day, so its effect would be better used at night

.

the study also evaluated the action of toothpaste without fluoride on three daily escovações. In these cases, according to the authors, the effect of preventing the development of dental caries in

blocks was null.
