More than 100 specialists in the first meeting between hepatologos and Nephrologists celebrated in Spain.

Spain, January 2013.- more than one hundred hepatologos and Nephrologists will gather on 25 and 26 January in Alcázar de San Juan (Ciudad Real) in the framework of the celebration of the 1st National Symposium on liver and kidney organized by General Hospital ‘ La Mancha Centro ’, Centre of the health service of Castilla – La Mancha (SESCAM).

It will be the first meeting between specialists of Hepatology and nephrology which will be held in Spain, which will have the opportunity to make a joint approach to diseases of the liver and kidney of face to an improvement in health care. To achieve this, they will assist speakers and experts with international recognition in the field, among them, one of the highest authorities worldwide, Dr. Vicente Arroyo Pérez, of the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona; as well as Dr. Manuel Romero Gómez, of the Hospital Virgen de Valme in Seville, and Dr. Guillermina Barril, Hospital La Princesa in Madrid.

The meeting has far exceeded initial expectations of participation expected by the Organization, given that registered specialists from all points of the country (Basque country, Canary Islands, Extremadura, Andalusia, Valencia, Madrid, etc.). The reasons for the success of the event must, in addition to by the high scientific level of the Symposium, because it has been released in different scientific congresses and national publications of the specialties involved.

Professionals of Hospital Mancha Centro that carry more than one year working to make possible the meeting are responsible for the service of Nephrology of the Hospital Mancha Centre, Rebeca García Agudo, and specialist in Gastroenterology (Hepatology) at the same centre, Sami Aoufi Rabih, members of the Group of experts of viruses in dialysis of the Spanish society of Nephrology and authors of important research related to both liver and kidney diseases that have offered very relevant to national and international results.

As an example of the fruitful line of investigation higado-rinon of these specialists from the Hospital in Alcazar de San Juan is located the national multicentre SHECTS (situation liver of a patient with hepatitis C chronic hemodialysis) involving 187 centers.

Scientific programme

The 1st National Symposium on liver and kidney will start today Friday afternoon in the Intur Hotel in the city with two round tables. The first of them, about cirrhosis and renal failure, will address advances in syndrome Hepatorenal, chronic renal failure in the cirrotico patient and aspects related to dialysis in patients with chronic liver disease. The second table on hepatitis and kidney, will treat extrahepatic manifestations of infection by the virus of hepatitis B and C, the hidden C virus infection, and the diagnosis and treatment of chronic infection by the C virus in patients with chronic kidney disease.

For Saturday January 26 other two round tables, among which is the second dedicated to hepatitis and kidney with papers that show the findings of the multicenter national SHECTS, experience the nephrologist in the treatment of chronic hepatitis C and the new therapeutic in chronic infection strategies have been scheduled by the virus B and C in kidney patients. The last Roundtable of the Symposium will be focused on transplantation of higado-rinon, their indications, epidemiology and prevention of infection by the B virus in hepatic and renal transplantation.
