the originality of the work provided by the core of the children’s Cancer Institute Dentistry (ICI-RS) can be recognized with the Finep Innovation Prize in 2012. The project “transforming Smiles of the children’s Cancer Institute” competes in assistive technology and Social Technology. Promoted by the Brazilian Innovation Agency, the award was established to recognize and promote innovative efforts made by companies, non-profit institutions and Brazilian inventors developed in Brazil and already applied in the country or abroad.
in the ICI-RS, the nucleus provides a close relationship between the children with cancer and their need for dental treatment. Located in the headquarters of the Institute, this service has seven dentists specialists and accounts for about of 215 patients. “They get free Dentistry procedures, prophylaxis, Pediatric Dentistry, Orthodontics, oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Orthopedics, Dentistry and Endodontics, and the treatment of Orthodontics is considered to be the only one held in Porto Alegre at no additional cost to the patient ”, explains the Coordinator Ana Buais.
in addition, the development of an electronic data portal with fully developed software by ICI-RS beckons with more innovations on the way. The new technology will provide online tracking of patients, allowing the issuing of alarms to engineers and researchers involved in the project at a time that some relevant information is entered. The portal will be a differential in the pursuit of knowledge by enabling exchanges of information and experience among the team of ICI-RS and other professionals.
