Madrid, July of 2011- the President of the Observatory against domestic violence and gender has highlighted the advances that have occurred in the fight against abuse, which have enabled today “ skip all alarms ” before a complaint. Immaculate Montalbán has been interviewed on ‘ on days like today ’ by Marc Chamber, Deputy Director and presenter of the information space of the National Radio.

“ When a woman says that she is afraid indicates that it is more serious than it seems ”. With this ruling, immaculate Montalban has expressed the importance to be given to any complaint concerning ill-treatment, a process that defines as “ complicated and long, not sudden or isolated ”. Also pointed out that of every ten deaths, seven had no complaint, which, in their view, demonstrates that “ the complaint saves lives ”.

The President of the Observatory against domestic violence, dependent on the General Council of the judiciary organ, has explained how in a decade Spain has become one of “ most advanced countries in diagnosis and action against gender-based violence ”. In his view, “ today that jump alarms when a woman alleges, and trying to put all means at its disposal ”.

32 victims in 2011

The death of 32 women at the hands of their partners or exparejas since the beginning of the year demonstrates, according to Montalban, that need more work in the family, which continue to operate “ very old patterns of domination of men over women’s ”.

Montalbán has explained that the Observatory study on 530 sentences only appreciated signs of false complaint in one of them. Moreover, only 15 per cent of women who complain about then go to a process of separation or divorce, which could benefit thanks to the complaint. Last but not least, the only Prosecutor has withdrawn the accusation in less than 20 cases.
