Institute medical laser starts to work CONFOSCAN: the new programme for analysis of results of Confocal microscopy.

Spain, 2011-October Confoscan, the new software of quantification for the analysis of results of Confocal Microscopy, is already being applied by Institute medical laser physicians who, in the Confoscan Days prowess, agreed in advance that incorporate this technology into the system of Confocal Microscopywith which they already work from the year 2009 for their dermatological applications, diagnosis and evolution of skin rejuvenation.

Confoscan allows you to measure the State of the network of collagen and elastin, determine the size, shape and number of the different cells of the surface portion of the skin to the dermal papillae and quantify the melanin, digitizing and representing such quantification in numerical form. Thus, physicians of IML can make objective improvements at the level of collagen obtained with dermocosmetic treatments and so make a better assessment of their trials.

The microscopy of scanning laser confocal, technical non-invasive, safe and painless, allows to see inside the surface portion of the skin at different depths in real time, providing rapid and accurate information without having to obtain prior samples through histological cuts. Furthermore, the high resolution confocal microscopy-generated allows therapeutic monitoring over weeks, months or even years to check progress and course of dermatological and aesthetic treatments.

The operation of the confocal microscope is based on the conjugation of the focal planes (confocal) or elimination of the light that comes from the levels above and below the focal plane, thereby increasing the clarity and resolution of the image. It also has an infrared laser of 830 Nm wavelength, whose light penetrates into each of the skin layers to a depth of between 200 and 300 microns. The light hits each cell individually, reflecting and creating digital images that provide information on the structure and composition of each of the layers of the skin.

IML applied Microscopy Confocal:

as diagnóstico:
tool
-cutaneous aging produced by exposure to the Sun and the passage of time.
-Melanoma, pigmented lesions, psoriasis, Actinic Keratosis, basal cell carcinoma
-Dermatitis and allergies

as a tool of measurement and results of investigation clinic. contrast

-The Journal of Clinical Dermatology published a study of laser Medical Institute on the treatment of acne scars, macroscopic results were contrasted with the images obtained during the study, the Confocal Microscope, crediting and Government observed cosmetic changes to level Ultra-structural.

Study on the impact of pain on the quality of life and the use of health resources in Spain

CHANGE PAIN puts at the disposal of the scientific community the findings of the publication “ Pain, Health related quality of life and healthcare resource utilization in Spain ”, which analyzes the impact of pain on the quality of life of the Spaniards and the use of health resources in Spain

-this article concludes that the pain is in Spain infratratado, thereby increasing the suffering of patients with pain, as well as the use of health resources

-60.4% of Spaniards who do not suffer pain appreciate their quality of life as good or even as a very good, compared to only 23.4% of Spaniards who suffer pain her appraised as good

-this articlebased on data from the study carried out by Kantar Health, is published in the latest issue of the journal “ Journal of Medical Economics ”. It is shows that people with pain receive worse their State of health, both physical and emotional, coming to affect them negatively its ability to work

– also concludes that a better understanding and treatment of pain could reduce current health expenditures. Early detection and adequate treatment could avoid that pain become chronic

Spain, 2011-October CHANGE PAIN puts at the disposal of the scientific community this publication on the impact of pain on the quality of life of the Spanishas well as its impact on the national health system. Based on data from the survey conducted by Kantar Heatlth, this publication shows the ratio inversely proportional between pain and quality of life (how much more pain feel the Spanish worse appreciate their quality of life).

Discusses the incidence of pain in the emotional and physical health. 16.1% Of patients with pain valued their physical health as poor, while only 2.09% of patients evaluated it negatively. Dr. César Margarit, the pain unit of the University General Hospital of Alicante and member of the Committee of experts of PAIN CHANGE adds that “ the quality of life both in the physical dimension as mental patients with pain is worse than some chronic diseases such as atrial fibrillation and even some types of cancer ”.

With regard to its impact on the emotional level, 11.7% of patients with pain rated his emotional state as bad, whereas only 5% of patients without pain chose this option.

This study also refers to the direct relationship between chronic pain and the use of health resources, determining that people who suffer pain use more frequently than those who do not have them. In fact, the pain is a determining factor when visiting a doctor, the emergency room or hospital admission.

As primary care, pain is a factor almost double the visits to the doctor. “ 60.4% Of patients with pain used the first level of care five or more times in the past six months, compared to 34% of patients without pain ”, as points out Concha Dr. Perez, of the unit for University Hospital pain of the Princess and a member of the Committee of experts of CHANGE PAIN. The same applies to the rooms of emergency, where the number of visits by the Spanish who suffer pain is more than double. While 3.6% of the patients without pain visited er twice in the past six months, patients with pain attended this service 8.2%.

In response to hospital admissions, 9.5 per cent of patients with pain were admitted at least once during the past six months, while only 5.7 per cent of the patients without pain were hospitalized. In this way shows that people who suffer pain are hospitalized twice times that persons who do not suffer.

-Pain intense & use resources health

as intense pain, data collected in this book reveal that the visits to the doctor of those patients who suffer from increasing by 184% with regard to those who suffer no pain. If in addition this intense pain faces on a daily basis, this increase is 208,8%. As for stays in emergencies, its increase is 253,3% and % 373 if severe pain suffers daily. If we look at the data thrown on hospital admissions, it shows how the increase is 305,0%, and if it is severe pain is daily, the figure increases to 348,5%.

-The study’s other conclusions

publication “ Pain, Health related quality of life and healthcare resource utilization in Spain ” collects, at the same time two important conclusions about the pain. First it says that both the intensity and frequency are determinants of pain, and that this reality is not adequately considered. In addition, reflected that chronic pain is still in many cases infratratado, thereby increasing the suffering of the people with this disorder, as well as the use of health resources. For this reason the treatment of pain must be valued as a Fundamental human right and thus has been considered by our European authorities and endorsed by the UN.

a better understanding, diagnosis and treatment of pain could reduce the use of health resources and therefore a reduction in current expenditures, because early detection and adequate treatment could avoid that pain become chronic. In this sense, this study identified as a priority need a better assessment of pain and its actual health care costs. This could help to generate a strong reduction in the use of resources of the national health system short term.

– do know that pain …
… had a negative impact on the quality of life of patients?

-more than half of the people with pain intense (53%) recognize that they have been forced to reduce or limit their normal social activities

– do know that the? PAIN …
… is closely linked to the labour productivity low?

-39.4% of people who suffer severe pain are absent from their jobs, compared to 3.3% of the population who do not suffer pain.

Cardiovascular disease is the cause of most common death in the woman

XXXI Congress Regional of the Association society Extremadura’s cardiology.

Spain, 2011-October The XXXI Congress Regional of the Association society Extremadura of Cardiology held in Cáceres, Extremadura Hotel, during the 7 and 8 October. The Congress will focus on two key issues, cardiovascular disease (CVD) in women, which presents symptoms different from that of men; and the treatment of diseases hypocaloric, excess lipids in the blood, with the evolution of hipolipemientes drugs.

In order to reduce cardiovascular events (HP) in the global population to have an equivalent reduction in both sexes, however, a number of factors make for women this reduction lower than that of males. On the other hand, hypercholesterolemia is the main risk factor for coronary heart disease.

Opening ceremony

The opening act will include the Minister of health and Social policy, María Jerónima Sayagués, the Mayor of Caceres, Elena Nevado, the managing director of the SES, Albino Navarro, the Manager of the Cáceres-Coria area of health, Francisco Javier Godoy del Olmo, the President of school medical officer, CáceresCarlos r. Arjona, President of the official school of doctors of Badajoz, Peter Hidalgo, and the President of the Extremadura society of Cardiology, José Ramón López Mínguez.

Work tables

In Europe cardiovascular diseases represent 43% of deaths in men and 55% in women. Similarly, the probability of dying after a first heart attack, is almost double that of men. Thus women have a 50% chance of dying while his first heart attack than men, 30 per cent. The main barrier, curiously, is a general feeling that tends to underestimate the true incidence of the problem in women

hours on Friday will feature the presence of Dr Andres Iñiguez Romo, director of the cardiology area of the University Hospital complex of Vigo, and Dr. José Ramón López Mínguez, head of section of hemodynamics of Badajoz and President of the Extremadura society of Cardiology Hospital Infanta Cristina. This working group is intended to alert doctors and patients about the reality of cardiovascular disease, the main causes of death in women over breast cancer.

A number of peculiarities in women, make that there is one knowledge of this reality, late diagnosis of the disease and a delay and sometimes underspending in the most appropriate treatments.

On the other hand, the Saturday worktable will focus on advances in the treatment of hypocaloric, excess fat, and cholesterol and other lipids in the blood. Recent data from the Center for Disease Control and prevention show that 20% of young people between 12 and 19 years are some lipid abnormality and 30% were overweight in which a lipid screening would be justified.

This session will be moderated by Dr. Gonzalo Marcos Cáceres Cardiology section chief, also intervene Dr. Pedro Saez, responsible for the unit lipid of the Mérida Hospital and Dr. Álvarez Sala, head of the unit lipid of hospital Gregorio Marañon from Madrid.

La physiotherapy offers a wide range of possibilities for treating the dysfunction of the soil pelvic.

–urinary incontinence, fecal incontinence, and pelvic prolapse may affect up to one-third of adult women

Madrid, October 2011.- The Professor of the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad San Pablo CEU, Myriam Cabrera Guerra, has ensured that physical therapy offers a wide range of possibilities for treatment for pelvic floor dysfunction.

As pointed out Cabrera, the dysfunction of pelvic floor, such as urinary incontinence, “ are often hidden health problems which impair the quality of life, limited autonomy and have an impact in the field of psycho-social, occupational, emotional and sexual, increased the use of socio-health and family resources, resulting in a great economic expense ”.

Epidemiological data confirm that this condition is becoming a real public health problem, since it is estimated that one of the three most frequent perineal conditions (urinary incontinence, fecal incontinence, and pelvic prolapse) can affect up to one-third of adult women.

As has been explained Cabrera, although males can also be affected by these disease, the woman is undoubtedly the main patient consultation by symptoms related to pelvic floor dysfunction.

Also highlighted sport, constipation, chronic respiratory conditions, work, obesity, and age, among others, as elements of risk that impair the pelvic ground early. However, and taking into account these general risk factors, the main factor that triggers these perineal pathologies is delivery.

In this line, has ensured the perineal re-education covers four areas: Urology, gynaecology and obstetrics, Coloproctology and Fisiosexología. For this reason, it has been said, “ physical therapy offers a wide range of possibilities of treatment with different techniques contribute to improve and cure these diseases ”.

The main thing emphasised Cabrera, is perineal assessment that enables to achieve an accurate diagnosis, to raise the appropriate treatment. “ Techniques are many and varied, and combining them in an appropriate manner can cure or improve up to 80% the pathology ”, pointed out.

Women with severe COPD respond better to treatment with home oxygen therapy than men.

women with severe COPD respond better to treatment with home oxygen therapy than men.

-women with COPD are younger, smoke less and have greater degree of shortness of breath to the same degree of obstruction for men

-women may be more susceptible to the effects of the inhaled smoke

-symptoms, the impact and the level of activity that can be improved more in women with oxygen therapy treatment for severe COPD that men

Spain, 2011-October the magazine archives of Bronconeumologíaofficial organ of the Spanish society for Pneumology and thoracic surgery, has published a study on the response to treatment with home oxygen therapy in patients with obstructive pulmonary disease chronic (COPD) serious revealed that there are different answers depending on the sex of the patient. Although symptoms improved in both cases, women show a more pronounced improvement especially in relation to the activity and the impact of the disease.

Currently the patient type of COPD is has “ rejuvenated ” and “ feminized ”. Patients have an average age of diagnosis of fifty years, and while it was a very male disease, now tends to match as a result of the increase in smoking in women from the early 1970s (study EPISCAN) and the smoke from cigarettes appears to affect them more to them. Women thus represent a rapidly growing proportion of all patients with COPD. Women with COPD are younger, smoke less, respond to a lesser extent to the treatment of pulmonary rehabilitation and equal degree of blockage of airflow that men have more shortness of breath.

The study published in archives of Bronconeumología and carried out by a group of Brazilian specialists has compared the response to treatment with home oxygen therapy of severe COPD in relation to sex. The study involved 51 men and 46 women with treatment of oxygen therapy for at least 18 hours a day to control the evolution of the symptoms during 1 year.

The results clearly demonstrate the benefit of oxygen therapy with regard to the State of health in hypoxemic patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. All patients showed a significant improvement in the total score control questionnaire to 6 months and a significant improvement in the score of the sphere of symptoms at 6 months, which stood at 12 months of follow-up.

However, in the analysis stratified by sex exclusive finding of this study are sex differences in response to oxygen therapy in patients with COPD graves. In women, a persistent improvement of symptom score and total score was observed and, in comparison, the men observed a significant worsening of the score of activity, impact, and total score in the questionnaire.

sphere of activity which valued the questionnaire includes physical activities that induce Dyspnea or are limited by this. The results of this study demonstrate that limitation of activity was the variable in the State of health with a noticeable deterioration in men. Compared with women, men tend to make a greater effort, and in contrast to this is predictable that patients undergoing oxygen therapy stay more time at home and reduce your overall level of exercise.

These results show that in patients with severe COPD, health status differs according to sex, while women show a greater longitudinal response to oxygen.

In the same way, analyzing the State of health and the history of the patient participants, this study has also confirmed sex differences in the history of smoking, and obstruction of airflow. Women with COPD develop hypoxemia with a lesser degree of blockage of air flow and a smoking significantly less than men. The results support the notion that women could be more vulnerable to the harmful effects of the smoke inhaled.
