On the day we have analyzed the most relevant data about diabetes, a disease that grows in a manner parallel to obesity and it affecting increasingly younger population, focusing in particular on the prevention of this disease, from screening to one that can develop during pregnancy, gestational diabetes. Among the measures of prevention, has stressed the need to maintain a proper lifestyle, with a proper diet and exercise in a moderate way.

Control and prevention of disease in primary health care the Ministry of health, primary care health centers, focuses on prevention diabetes just promoting a healthy lifestyle since childhood, from food, through the prevention of smoking and passing through the prevention of physical inactivity and obesityespecially in the early years of life, and in adults, with systematic weight control and routine control of sugar in blood every year, from 45.

The health centres in the community of Madrid carried out in 2010 a medical follow-up 330.344 people over the age of 14-diagnosed diabetes. Health centres are in addition to regular medical controls diabetics, workshops of health education to promote self-care once the disease is diagnosed, addressing several of the pathology aspects, from the care of the feet to the exercise or diet.

New guide for clinical practice on urinary tract infection in Pediatrics.

New guide for clinical practice on urinary tract in paediatric infection

-this GPC will serve instrument to improve the clinical management of children with this condition

– according to some studies, at the European level the urinary tract infection affects between 3% and 11% of girls and between 1% and 4% of children

Zaragoza, November 2011- El Instituto Aragonés of Health Sciences (I+CS) introduced a new clinical practice guideline (GPC) addressed to health professionals involved in the diagnosis, treatment and care of pediatric patients with urinary tract infection, as well as to caregivers of patients.

Infection of the urinary tract (ITU) is a process common in pediatric population which is affected by a few signs and symptoms of presentation which may be little specific and uncertainty entailed by their prognosis. It has higher risk of complications than in adulthood and the fear of these complications may have as a consequence, in many cases, the improper use of diagnostic tests and the use of unnecessary antibiotic treatments, with the consequent risk to the patient and the community. According to some studies, within Europe the incidence of urinary tract infection is situated between 3% and 11% in girls and between 1% and 4% in children.

The GPC aims to serve as an instrument to improve the clinical management of children with this condition seeks to facilitate information relevant and uniform, to reduce care variability that exists today. It also provides relevant information for families and caregivers, in order to facilitate the diagnosis and follow-up of patients.

The Guide to clinical practice on infection of urinary tract in pediatric population, drawn up by the I+CS in the framework of the Plan of quality within the program of development of GPC for the national system of health of the Ministry of health, Social Affairs and equalIt has been presented at 18: 30 hours on 17 November day in the lounge of acts of the Hospital mother and child Handbook of the Hospital Miguel Servet.

A scientific study related sedentary lifestyle in working with the increase in body weight

– with data from the past 50 years, a study in the United States.UU. examines the evolution of physical activity at the workplace of Americans

-research ensures that “ the reduction in energy expenditure represents a significant part of the increase in average men and American women body weight ”

Madrid, November 2011- A recent survey by American scientistsIt points out that over the past 50 years, the daily expenditure of energy produced by physical activity in the work environment has declined in more than 100 calories, pace that there have been changes in body weight of United States citizens.UU. This study, entitled “ trends over 5 decades in the United States.UU. between physical activity in the work environment and its relationship to obesity ”, has been published in the prestigious scientific journal PLoS ONE‟.

Research that have used data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the national survey of health and nutrition (NHANES) of the United States.UU., has recently reviewed the evolution of physical activity at the workplace of the Americans. In it, it has been revealed that during the past 5 decades, the daily expenditure of energy produced by physical activity in the work environment has decreased in more than 100 calories, while there have been changes in body weight of United States citizens.UU.

The study, recently published in the journal PLoS ONE‟ pointed out that at the beginning of the 1960s, almost half of the work of the private sector required at least one physical activity of moderate intensity, while currently less than 20% of the work, they require this level of energy expenditure.

In this regard, the experts felt that, from 1960-62 until 2003-06, “ daily expenditure of energy in the workplace had declined in 142 calories in male ”. Thus, for a weight of reference of 76.9 kg in 1960-62, this decrease in caloric expenditure would be increased by an average until the 89.7 kg weight These achieved similar results for men and women, also coincided with the model of energy balance of the NHANES survey which estimated average 91.9 kg weight, for that period.

According to the authors, the decline in physical activity at work has been motivated by the progressive decline in the percentage of individuals employed in agricultural occupations and production of goods, persons employed in service occupations increased. In this sense, researchers have concluded that “ the reduction in energy expenditure represents a significant part of the increase in average men and American women body weight ”.

Also, those responsible for the study have highlighted that “having a greater understanding of the relative importance of physical activity within the work environment, in the current epidemic of obesity, should help to formulate a comprehensive programme based on scientific data that includes various policies, strategies and tactics to combat this persistent problem ”.

“In this regard, have pointed out that physical activity “ is the only writable variable which can contribute to the total energy spent, representing a key factor in strategies for the prevention of overweight and obesity, as well as control of body weight ”.

Robotic systems designed by the mind.

-el Dr. Javier Mínguez said last Thursday at a Conference the challenge you are facing in the integration of robots operated mind and motor rehabilitation therapies

-A Telepresence robot, a wheelchair or a robotic arm could recover or enhance cognitive and motor skills in patients

Zaragoza, November 2011- from the relationship of the concepts of neuroscience and technology, comes the Neurotechnology which focuses on the development of tools of recovery or increase of human capacities through direct interaction between the brain and robotic devices.

Dr. Javier Mínguez we introduced into the development of systems operated with the mind, as the point of confluence between the Neurotechnology and Neurorehabilitation. These systems include a robot of telepresence, a wheelchair and a robotic arm; the first two controlled with brain activity and the latter able to learn to work with the brain activity of the user.

It also reviewed the current challenge facing these systems before their integration on rehabilitation therapies motor in cases such as the brain-vascular accident or spinal cord injury. He presented also his recent results in neurofeedback, technical through which we train the brain to help improve its own functioning and that of the rest of body and improve cognitive abilities in this way.

Dr. Javier Mínguez has a degree in physical sciences from the Complutense University of Madrid and PhD in computer science by the University of Zaragoza. He currently coordinates the research group in Neurotechnology and Neurorobótica. He directs and participates in various national and international research projects, and is involved in the Organization of the most important events in this area.
