EU sees as a “priority” to achieve that Durban put in place the Green Fund

Durban (South Africa), 30 nov (EFE).-the European Union (EU) considers a “priority” achieve the Summit of the United Nations on climate change (COP17) to put in place the Green Fund for climate, said today its negotiator, Poland’s Tomasz Chruszczow.

At a press conference in Durban International Conference Centre, headquarters of the Summit, Chruszczow stressed that “make the Fund operational is a priority for the EU”.

Comments of the negotiator, whose country holds the rotating Presidency of the Union, coincided with the presentation in the plenary of the Conference of the report of the Transitional Committee of the Fund, responsible for designing such a mechanism.

The Fund, agreed at the previous Summit in 2010, the city of Cancun (COP16), seeks to contribute to developing countries $ 100 billion per year from 2020 to shift to cleaner energies and combating change climate.

The Fund must channel the contributions of the rich countries in development.

“We welcome the report,” said Chruszczow, who believes that “it is possible to reach an agreement on the draft” of the report, because “is a good compromise that will attract substantial funds”.

“We want to see the operating fund as soon as possible,” he stressed negotiator in Europe, adding that such a mechanism “will help to promote a low consumption of coal economy” and it can contribute to the “economic recovery” world.

Asked by the institution which should manage the Fund, the EU representative responded that it would have to be an organism “as professional as possible and separated from politics”.

It is not easy to reach agreement on this matter if we take into account that United States rejected weeks ago the draft prepared by the Committee of transition.

The draft of the Committee proposes, among other considerations, that the World Bank acting administrator of the Fund subject to a review Act three years once the money bag is operational. EFE

The EC proposes to invest 80 billion euros in research in 2014 2020

Brussels, 30 nov (EFE).-the European Commission (EC) has been proposed today awarding 80 billion euros to the following program framework that will fund research and scientific projects in the European Union from 2014 to 2020, which increases by 25 billion budget of the current programme (2007–2013).

The initiative, called “Horizon 2020”, will provide “direct stimulus” to the European economy and stimulate its competitiveness by supporting the development and innovation and to SMEs, according to the European Commissioner for research, innovation and science, Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, who presented the plan at a Conference of press.

For its part, the Commissioner responsible for education and culture, Androulla Vassiliou, announced a new strategic agenda of innovation for the European Institute of innovation and technology (EIT), which will feature 2.8 billion euros, while the Vice-President of the EC, Antonio Tajani, presented a plan for the competitiveness and innovation of SMEs valued at 2,500 million.

The action for the climate, Connie Hedegaard, Commissioner also held that one-third of the total budget of the programme, more than 25,000 million euros will be invested in research related to the environment and, at least 60% of the total, in projects to support sustainable development.

The Commission stressed that the “Horizon 2020”, which will relay to the current seventh programme framework programme for research 2007-2013 (which boasts 55 billion euros), will bring together for the first time to the financing of research and innovation, and will introduce further simplification of rules and procedures to “attract” the best scientists.

Funds of “Horizon 2020” will be divided in three sectors: 24.6 billion euros in science (the budget of the European Research Council will increase 77%), 17.900 million for industrial innovation (of which 13.7 billion will focus on key technologies and support SMEs) and 31,700 million to respond to the “concerns” of the citizens.

These include health, demographic change and welfare, food security, sustainable agriculture, research marina and the bioeconomy; safe, clean and efficient energy; intelligent, ecological and integrated transport; climate change, the efficiency of resources and raw materials, and societies inclusive, innovative and safe.

In detail, the EC explained that 3.5 billion euros to expand the use of financial instruments that make a leverage effect to collect funds from the private sector and financial institutions, while SMEs will have 8,600 million in recognition of his “critical role” for the innovation. invest

Other 6,000 million euros will be devoted to the development of industrial European capabilities of key technologies, such as Photonics and nanoelectronics, nanotechnology, advanced materials or biotechnology.

Will be also awarded 5,750 EUR million (21%) to the projects financed programme Marie Curie, who has already helped more than 50,000 researchers since 1996.

The proposal must now be examined by the EU Council and the European Parliament, with a view to their adoption before the end of 2013. EFE

Soft drinks have catastrophic effects on teeth

With the reduction of the prevalence of caries from the years 1960, the concern with the loss of teeth has been directed to other causes, including the dental erosion.

Soft

dental erosion can be defined as the physical result of a loss of hard tissue of teeth surface caused by acids and/or chelating agents, without the involvement of bacteria. The results can be catastrophic for dental health, since loss of tissue can generate sensitivity, pain and bad appearance. Furthermore, the restoration of enamel and/or dentin lost is difficult, costly and requires continuous monitoring. Soft drinks appear as one of the main cause of dental erosions and therefore Cláudia Fushida and Jaime Cury da Universidade Estadual de Campinas decided to evaluate the effect of frequency of ingestion of coolant in the erosion of the enamel-dentine and studying the biological capacity of saliva on the rollback of changes

.

To bovine teeth were both used from which prepared blocks of radicular dentin and enamel suitable for surface microhardness determination. Nine volunteers, using Palatine intraorais devices containing four blocks of enamel and dentin four, participated in the work in four steps, in which Coca-Cola was ingested from one to eight times a day. the factors responsible for the erosion may be intrinsic or extrinsic, idiopathic. Extrinsic erosion is the result of exogenous origin acids, for example, contained in soft drinks. Intrinsic are the acids produced by vomiting, regurgitation recurring ebbs and flows. Idiopathic are acids

of unknown origin.

the results show that, according to the frequency of intake of soda, the percentage of loss of firmness was 18.7 to 27.9 to enamel and dentin to 24.6 for 32.6. The recovery percentage of hardness by the action of saliva was partial, ranging from 43.6 to 35.6 to the enamel and the dentin 40.5 to 34.6. According to the team, “there was also a significant correlation between the frequency of ingestion of Coca-Cola and the percentage of loss of firmness, being of 0.97 to enamel and dentin to 0.72. On the other hand, in terms of recovery of hardness, the correlation was negative, -0.70 to the enamel and dentin ” -0.74 to.

this way, the researchers conclude that, depending on the frequency of intake of soda, there are proportional and irreversible losses of superficial structure of enamel and dentin alike. Depending on the nature of the phenomenon of erosion, only oral health promotion measures could contribute to its control. In this way, guidance to reduce the frequency of contact of teeth with soft drinks, acidic foods or medicines is the most logical and effective Council
