The last Thursday, November 24, the Ordesa Foundation, which aims to promote the improvement of the living conditions, nutrition and child health, especially of the newborns, infants and children in their first years of life, awarded for the ninth consecutive year direct aid for programmes and projects aimed at children without resources.

The Ordesa Foundation will deliver this year aid worth 250,000 euros to five entities that develop programs of nutrition, health and prevention of diseases in various African countries and will Spain. Furthermore this year one of the provisions provide for the extension of a hospital with nutritional support in Kenyaone of the countries of the Horn of Africa affected by the severe food crisis in the region. Aid this year will be allocated to the following projects:

-Diócesisi of Garissa – expansion of the Hospital San Rafael for children and pregnant women in Kenya

-Foundation Kassumay – construction and equipment of a maternal and child health Hospital in Senegal

-doctors without borders – construction of a nutritional centre in Niger

-Active Africa – day-care centres for children in Malawi

-FundaciBorja Sánchez ón – creation of a multisensory room in Castellón

-the meeting was coordinated by Dr. Ismael Escribá, Chief of Traumatology unit service and took place at Hospital Universitari i Politècnic La Fe of Valenciaon Friday, November 25

Valencia, December of 2011- November 25, Hospital Universitari i Politécnic La Fe of Valencia, hosted the workshop on fractures Osteoporóticas, aimed at occupational health.

This meeting had been coordinated by the doctor in Ismael Escribá, Chief of service of the unity of Traumatology of the hospital run by the doctors D. Mariano Barrés and D. José Ferrer and Valencian. The day was developed at an intensive day and spanned two modules: 1. Proximal femur and 2. Proximal humerus.

These days have been aimed at dealing with the study and analysis of the latest techniques in the treatment of proximal osteoporóticas of hip and humerus fractures.

The completion of the course is based in response to the increase in the number of patients affected by periprotésicas fractures in the last decade. This is conditioned by the increase in the population at risk, which makes it necessary to update health care professionals in terms of new techniques, advances in diagnosis and treatment of them.

The methodology of the day consisted of exposure of the themes and possible medical complications arising.

The program included the presentation of 10 clinical cases submitted by doctors at the Hospital Universitario de Valencia, of the Hospital Lluis Alcanyís of Xátiva, the Hospital of Dénia Marina Health Hospital our Lady of the Alcoy Lírios in Alicante, Hospital Comarcal de Orihuela Vega Baja, and the Consortium Hospital General Universitario de Valencia, Hospital General of Elda Virgin of health of Alicante and Elche in Alicante University General Hospital.

Specialists in internal medicine, Traumatology and rehabilitation, participated in the different presentations that form the scientific programme. Among them, said doctor Swiss Norbert Suhm hospital Basel, which based their exhibition in the “ treatment of the elderly patient strategy ”.

Madrid, December of 2011- La Confederation Spanish organizations for older (CEOMA) has called on political forces that they have obtained parliamentary representation after the general elections held on 20 November and the next Government to guarantee the sustainability of services and care resources aimed at this group and promote measures to encourage the continuation of the working life of older persons.

CEOMA congratulates the PP on the broad support obtained at the ballot box and stresses the need that the organizations representing the elderly receive the backing and support of public institutions.

The Confederation also underlines the importance that cuts do not affect the law for the promotion of Personal autonomy and care for people in situation of dependence, as they would impact on the most vulnerable social sectors.

Among proposals that moved to the new Government is fostering a flexible retirement age, the possibility to combine retirement age and exercise of a liberal profession and the promotion of measures to facilitate the continuity of life skills, such as the establishment of career plans that foster this vital phenomenonto impose the lifelong, establish criteria for organizational flexibility or enhance the transmission of knowledge.

Valencia, 2011-December Diseases Musculoskeletal, also called rheumatic or locomotor, composed by a group of over 200 diseases including rheumatoid arthritis, are the main cause of low temporary disability in Spain. In the Valencian Community each of these patients collects an average of 45 days a year, a figure which cost labour of 138 million euros in the community, according to the health and work study (1).

With the aim of stimulating discussion among experts and contribute to improving the preventive and therapeutic monitoring of these diseases, Medical Economics, in collaboration with Fundación Abbott, has organized the day “ social and occupational health: quality of life in the patient musculoskeletal ”, which has been chaired by Manuela García RebollRegional Secretary of the Department of health; and Joaquín bathroom Girones, Director-General of the Ministry of education, training and employment work.

Pilot project in the University Hospital of the Fe

Dr. Juan Ángel Jover, Chief of Rheumatology service at the Hospital Clínico San Carlos in Madrid, has presented during the day the early intervention program in patients referred to as musculoskeletal (IT-I 2011 – failure Temporal-Enfermedades musculoskeletal 2011), which has already proven to be capable of reducing healthcare costs by half and has succeeded in reducing sick days 40%.
