Some 76,000 Spanish adolescents have proven once an emerging drug

Madrid, 1 Dec (EFE).-3.5% of Spanish aged between 14 and 18 (76,000) students has experienced ever with one of the so-called emerging – drug substances appearing on the market at one time as a novelty – and magic mushrooms are preferred by these young people.

Appears contained in a report drawn up by the clinical drugs emerging Commission, presented today by the Government delegate to the National Plan on drugs, Nuria Espí, who pointed out that these data are not “very worrying”, so “we are still in time”.

However, experts warn the capacity of these substances to cause addiction.

“Of the colocón to severe poisoning there is a very small margin”, has assured Magí Farré, Professor of Pharmacology of the Autonomous University of Barcelona and member of the Committee clinic.

The report highlights the difficulty of defining the concept of emerging, drugs that include a large, changing and very diverse group of substances natural, synthetic or semi-synthetic, known or unknown.

Usually emerging drugs are not included in the lists of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances is sometimes products that are marketed (salts of bath, bonuses for plants, fragrances, incense, anaesthetics..)(etc) but they are given a different use for which have been manufactured.

For this reason, in many cases they are not illegal, and accessing them is easy through the network.

Hence, new patterns of consumption to escape the control of Governments, mentioned spinnaker.

The European Union has identified up to 600 pages of the internet where you can buy these substances, but ’’ will certainly be thousands”, said Manuel Sanchís, specialist in internal medicine and a member also of the clinic Commission.

In addition to them mushrooms magical (fungi hallucinogenic), the ketamine (an anesthetic of use hospital that is consumed to have experiences extracorporeal) and the Spice (mix of herbs dehydrated that has an effect similar to el cannabis) are them substances emerging more consumed between them young Spanish.

.

Data on amphetamines (0.6 per cent of users) located at Spain between the countries of lower consumption, despite the fact that according to the UN is the second drug more consumed in the world after cannabis.

Emerging drug use is associated with the environments of nightlife, with music and dancing, though in recent years has noted an increase in consumer alone who seek to experience new sensations.

Oral administration is the most usual consumption of drugs emerging, although sometimes can be sniffing, since many of them are sold in the form of powder, or also smoking.

Its price can vary from 7 to 20 euros gram.

Although the consumption of these substances is not very high, the risk does the es, given that most of the time potential consumers know the exact composition and its effects, noted spinnaker.

It is so striking how the high percentage of consumers who are unaware of the health problems that can result in the substance they are consuming.

The report highlights that between 40 and 50 per cent of young people recognize cannot be attributed a given risk consumption of the substances.

The effects of emerging drugs are as varied as its origin and composition.

A large majority can be considered psychostimulants and produce hyperactivity of the central nervous system with cardiovascular impact.

Others are on the central nervous system depressant effects and a third group causes effects hallucinogens.

The report points out that under the effects of these substances can be develop aggressive behaviors and risk, as driving in a reckless manner or sexual intercourse not protected.

Some substances, such as ketamine and GHB (a powder of white that is dissolved in water in small glass jars) are considered, in some countries, such as facilitators of felony sex.

Children with HIV in Asia suffer from resistance to drugs for AIDS

(Reuters) – adolescents in Asia that receive

treatment for HIV are showing early symptoms of

osteoporosis, and children from 5 years are developing

resistance to the drugs against AIDS, said Thursday a

Group of fight against the disease urged to provide more

attention to the issue.

The finding, published the world day of fight against

AIDS, is a reminder that although there are more people in

Asia with access to basic medicines against malaria, the

improved medications are outside the scope and the patients

-adults and children – suffer from attention inadequate.

In Asia, about 160,000 children are infected with the virus of

human immunodeficiency (HIV) that causes AIDS. Of them,

some 57,000 require treatment, but only 30,000 were

at the end of 2008, according to UNICEF.

Asian Fund TREAT scientists found that children

from 5 years are developing resistance to drugs for

AIDS and could soon improved medicines, more precise

faces are not in its scope.

“In our cohort, 14 per cent of children have

failed with the first-line drugs (…) “Some of

they are already in the second line have less than 5 years”,

told Reuters Annette Sohn, Director of TREAT Asia, in an

interview call.

If the drugs to treat AIDS are not taken at the time or

with the indicated frequency generate resistance. But in Asia,

resistance is also due to the lack of formulas tailored

to the children.

“All made some mistakes regarding how to handle to the

“”

patients with HIV at the start of the epidemic”, said Sohn. “We use

didn’t have tablets for adults, Pediatric prepared in

our countries”, added.

Sohn said that health experts and providers

drugs have to find ways to manufacture medicines of

third line, more powerful, available for poor children

countries of low resources.

These medicines are available or are subsidized

in rich countries, but are very expensive and at times not be

they are in the Nations in development.

“Unless generate access to third-line drugs,

we will find ourselves in a medical room with a patient by

that it is nothing to be done and that we do not have any other

medication to give”, said Sohn, paediatric specialist

in children with HIV/AIDS.

A long-term study conducted TREAT about 4,000

under the age of 23 in Asia HIV patients also showed that

a high percentage of teenagers had mineral density

bone down, which is a precursor of osteoporosis.

“That is not normal.” “Children should not have bone mass

down when they are 16 years and that is why the effect of HIV on

their bodies (…) brains, bones and immune system”, said Sohn.

The expert considered that this also should for purposes

toxic to have some medicines for AIDS, such as

tenofovir on the bones.

The study covers Thailand, Viet Nam, Malaysia, Cambodia,

Indonesia and India. TREAT Asia is a network of clinics, hospitals

and research institutions working together to
