The Gregorio Marañón is home to a BioBank with 561 biological samples to enhance the research.

as well as having other BioBank of HIV only in Europe, which is home to 14,000 samples.

-Thanks to the specificity of the preserved samples research customized can design

– contains hundreds of samples of diseases such as HIV, hypothyroidism, neonatal sepsis and bronchiolitis

Madrid, January 2012.- hospital Gregorio Marañón has a BioBank that holds samples of blood, plasma, cellsDNA, cell pellet, washing broncoalveolar, serum, biopsies and fabrics with the aim of promoting and strengthening research in diseases such as bronchiolitis, neonatal sepsis, neutropenia associated with childhood cancer, hypothyroidism, rare diseases, HIV, HCV infection and coinfecciones. In total, this BioBank houses 561 biological samples.

The Mission of the BioBank is to contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge and to meet this objective, ensures the receipt, processing and Cryopreservation of biological samples in conditions which ensure its usefulness for present and future research. Due to the specificity of the samples can be designed research tailored to the researchers to the advancement of knowledge of these diseases and biotechnology, which will promote the advancement of basic and clinical research, and is positively in the treatment of those affected.

In this way, any study that arises in the future, both derived from a new discovery in biotechnology or molecular in the clinical setting technology, can benefit from the existence of samples appropriate, promoting in this way the advance in research into these diseases and their possible clinical application.

The platform of the hospital BioBank is structured on two biobanks: one maternal and child health, and other HIV and co-infected. The mother and child consists of six nodes: respiratory, endocrine, neonatology, Pediatric Oncology, rare diseases and pediatric HIV. The respiratory node stored 104 samples of bronchiolitis; the Neonatology has 33 samples of suspected neonatal sepsis; Endocrinology has 394 samples of hypothyroidism; cancer and neutropenia 34 samples, and that of HIV is home to 273. Besides the samples belonging to these nodes, the maternal-infant BioBank has material to be used as controls in projects of research.

BioBank in single European HIV

For its part, the HIV BioBank, which has certified to the quality standard UNE – EN – ISO 9001: 2008, is unique in Europe specialized in processing and Cryopreservation of specimens taken from patients infected with this virus. Consists of 6 longitudinal prospective cohorts: cohort of adult patients infected with HIV, of not progresores long term, rapid progresores of recent or acute infection, cohort of liver transplantation in patients infected with HIV and cohort of HIV patients infected by vertical transmission.

They participate in the deposit of biological material 40 hospitals, distributed by all Spain, and are available from 14,000 samples from more than 6.881 patients. Since its inception, in 2004, this BioBank has yielded 5.797 samples to 29 research projects and has achieved great international projection through pan-European collaboration consortia, as EuroNanoMed, or due to the collaboration in platforms such as the European Society for Biopreservation and BioBanking, the Biobanking and Biomolecular Resources Research Infrastructure (BBMRI) and the International Society for Biological and Environmental Repositories.

The aesthetics of the smile more than just beauty

With globalisation and the Internet phenomenon, the information and scientific advances are being transmitted almost instantly.

thus, increasingly, people around the planet are acquiring habits very similar, and have the same desires and longings.

in this context, standards of beauty throughout the world come if equating and indicate as a precondition for an individual to be considered “beautiful” the presence of a beautiful smile.

Several surveys suggest that the larger aesthetic complaint of women is related to the smile. In line with this finding, also the first Greenway to attract men into a woman it is precisely your smile

.

it is undeniable that the golden rule of facial beauty depends on the harmony between the smile and the dentition. Just not enough, white teeth, leveled and aligned well outlined. The so-called golden ratio is something to be pursued when really we are concerned with the aesthetic patient orodentofacial.

in addition to the aesthetic dental aesthetic “or” white, also the gingival esthetics or “red” aesthetic occupies a prominent place for a beautiful smile. The presence of a gum healthy is an imperative and a strong indicator of

facial beauty.

However, behind a smile beautiful and harmonious in regard to face there is much more than just aesthetics. A beautiful smile is a true synonym for general health insurance and an indicator that the individual holder of this beautiful smile is truly healthy.

A clear example of this is related to the health of the animals, which has always been guided by the presence of teeth healthy. The adage “horse given not looking teeth” is a clear reference to the importance of oral health to overall health of individuals.

Also not forget the sad fact, however, that marked the history of mankind as, for example, at the time of slavery when a slave was marketed, their value was higher when the same possessed teeth intact. There is no doubt that oral health is the greatest indicator of overall health.

Between all species of animals, the human race is the only one that can smile. However, many people lose their self-esteem by the presence of an aesthetics of the smile compromised, assuming a behavior reserved and introverted precisely by not having a smile considered beautiful.

addition, many authors claim that an attractive smile can also indicate nutritional health, self-esteem, economic status, cultural, and, being fundamental to the labour, social relations and even to the maintenance of sexuality. Aesthetics and the patients ’ oral health are inseparable go together and have been considered in recent years as very important factors and able to interfere directly in degree of morbidity and mortality of people

.

is a unanimity among the international bodies that infectious health outbreaks in the oral cavity are potential sources of systemic infections, mainly due to the presence of caries and periodontal diseases. These diseases are the result of an iterative process between the oral biofilm, teeth and periodontal tissue (Forner et al. 2006).

Second Moore and Moore (1994); Socransky and Haffaje (1994); Wilson, Weightmen and Wade (1997) the oral cavity is an ecosystem that is home to between 400 to 500 different species of microorganisms. To Downes (2008) there are more than 600 different species in the mouth, made up mostly of bacteria, fungi, protozoa and viruses. According to the author, the bacteria are the most numerous in the oral cavity, somewhere around 100 million to each millilitre of saliva.

Obviously, nobody needs to worry about too much with this. These microorganisms live in balance, including helping to protect us from a number of pathologies. However, numerous papers point to a direct connection between a low oral health condition and serious general health problems precisely when there is an imbalance of this ecosystem.

Although there are some controversies, many scientific studies prove the relationship between oral health and overall health. Various systemic diseases may be related or be aggravated by low oral health condition. In reality, caries and gingival diseases (reduce gingivitis and periodontites) may be related to a number of diseases and systemic problems, for example, CVA (cerebrovascular accident), Cardiovascular Diseases (CVD), myocardial infarction, Bacterial Endocarditis, gastrointestinal disorders, Gastritis, ulcers, Chronic Lung Infections, Nosocomial Pneumonia, Diabetes, Oral Cancer, pre-delivery term (Preterm) among others, however, these diseases have a multifactorial primary character, i.e. they are caused by a combination of factors (Elkind and Cole, 2006; Piconi et al. 2008; Kebschull, Demmer and Papapanou, 2010).

a survey conducted at the Institute of Heart in 2009 showed that about 40% of patients treated with infection in cardiac membrane that covers the heart valves (endocarditis), had history of poor oral hygiene. Therefore, it is essential that surgeons-dentists to implement in their aesthetic treatments for preventive measures and control disorganization of oral biofilm. The phrase “health starts by mouth” is really a

absolute truth.

is not possible that the professionals remain unaware of the fact that dental caries is the most common chronic disease of the planet and that reaches more than five billion people, i.e. 88% of the world’s population. This is a disgrace to the dental class and shows that the purely curative Dentistry does not resolve and does not attack the root of the problem. “

despite the great advance of treatments and implantossuportadas rehabilitations, it seems that the table will also be repeated with the emergence of so-called peri-implantites. mucosites and

often the treatments are carried out through the installation of fixed prostheses of type “Protocol” with a about extension that completely prevent access and hygiene of the junction between the implants and prosthetic pillars. This is a truly absurd and demonstrates the complete lack of knowledge of what represents the binomial aesthetics-health, because there is no health in the presence of gingival disease.

Learn brushing is something very important and that unfortunately people think are born knowing. Learning a technique effective hygiene Atraumatic is the first step to be given, because she will be responsible for preventing the disease, as well as allow the conservation and maintenance of

treatment carried out.

in General, people do not appreciate this work and end up performing the task of oral hygiene of an empirically and intuitive. It is necessary to conduct a thorough oral hygiene and complete way to disorganize all niches of oral biofilm retention through the use of specific accessories, very powerful and completely atraumáticos.

the use of brushes of type ultramacias and with a large number of bristle brushes teeth Prime and/or Soft-Implant and also the use of Unitufo Soil type brushes are the key to success for the preservation of aesthetics, of oral health and general health

accordingly.
