Santo Domingo, 16 mar (EFE).-Dominican Republic today banned lobster fishing in the country for the next four months in order to preserve its existence seriously threatened in recent years, official sources said.
The local government issued a decree that explains that the measure prohibits the capture, processing and meat or undeclared mass tenure and commercialization of the crustacean species, shrimp, stone and MOM lobster.
The Ordinance said that the ban applies from March 1 to June 30 of each year, “in line with the regional ban within the framework of Sica-Ospesca agreements”, signed by Central America and many nations of the Caribbean.
The official measure grants within five days to persons and entities possessing mass of lobster or lobster living in captivity, to make his statement of existence before the Dominican Council of fisheries and aquaculture (Codopesca), for purposes of control.
Between the motivations of the provision, laying down that populations of lobster in Dominican Republic show “clear signs of overexploitation”, which has caused a decrease of copies offered for sale to the public.
