ASION offers psychological support to the families because in many cases “children suffer just like the parents

MADRID, 15 ( EUROPA PRESS)

leukemia “affects half of all children with cancer”, as explained by the President of the Association children’s Oncology of Madrid (ASION), Teresa González during the day of reflection which has organized this society in CaixaForum on the occasion of the international day of the child with cancer.

This tumor “has many surnames, which is why there are many varieties affecting children”, has said Gonzalez told Europa Press. Today is the tumor has more prevalence among children.

For the President of ASION, when the juvenile has a degree of consciousness developed “suffer like the parents”, but this is the psychological support of the Association and of health professionals, which has become “one element” of treatment.

Currently only in the community of Madrid “are given 200 cases of children with cancer”, which means a significant financial outlay for these families. “One of the parents often have to leave work to care for his son,” says the President of ASION.

To alleviate this problem, the Association provides support economic and functional to parents. “To the families that are outside of Madrid provide them a house” that they may be close to their children during different treatment to which they are subjected, States.

This help is possible thanks to the grant from the Spanish Federation of parents of children with cancer, giving ASION 40,000 euros a year to solve the needs of affected families. In addition, “there is an agreement with the community of Madrid for the improvement of hospitals and for leisure activities for children”, it says.

Parents can take the low paid

Has affected everything that, after 23 years of life of the Organization, great advances have succeeded. “Now parents can stay 24 hours in the hospital with her children, get paid down or seek educational home care”, recounts.

Exercised actions aims to help these people, to González “changes them lives when the diagnosis of her son,” maintains. Fortunately, the impact is lower for younger children for not being so aware.

Was one of many girls and boys to obtain success in their fight against cancer Patricia, of 26 years and business student. “I had a ten years acute lymphoblastic lymphoma and now I am fully recovered,” explains to Europa Press.

To get more cures, González considers it necessary “communicate issues and concerns of these people”, by rejecting the Association who chairs to be “mere service provider”. In its view, should become “agent of social awareness” so that citizens contribute to the cause.

For this reason, in the last years, ASION has ceased to apply only to families and has expanded its work in attracting aid to the rest of society. “We want to achieve further improvements in the short or medium term”, concluded González.
