Ana Pastor, named collegiate honor by the College medical organization.

Madrid, November of 2011- the Organization Medical College (WTO) has decided to award the highest award given by that institution, the status of Member of national honor with gold emblem, to Dr. Ana Pastor Julian for his defense and commitment to compulsory licensing. The decision has been adopted, by acclamation, at the General Assembly of WTO, comprising 52 Presidents of the Spain medical colleges, its Standing Committee, and its nine national representatives.

For the WTO, one of the main values of compulsory licensing lies in the guarantee offered for patients, and insurance for the professional and for the Manager. For the citizen, it is a guarantee to have a professional loyal to the patient and the health of this above any other convenience, to respect their beliefs, their privacy, their freedom of decision and responsibility of their actions and errors. It represents a guarantee to safeguard freedom of the doctor in his right to freedom of prescription, their conscientious objection or his professional secrecy. It is also a guarantee for the Manager by implying for professionals their social co-responsibility in governance of health institutions and defense of the national health system.

Ana Pastor, physician and Director of health of the people’s Party, has always been his defense and commitment to compulsory licensing, and has been a strong promoter of initiatives carried out the PP in this regard, including the resources that were sent to the Constitutional Court against the loss of the licensing requirement, and a recent no legislative proposal on compulsory licensing.

Ana Pastor, a degree in medicine and surgery from the University of Salamanca, is representative for the province of Pontevedra and coordinator of Social participation of the people’s Party. Second Vice-President of the Bureau of the Congress of deputies in the last legislature, has been Health Minister between 2002 and 2004. He has also held several secretariats, as Presidency, Interior and education, and culture. In the health sector has exercised, Furthermore, other charges as the head of the service of health planning of the Ministry of health and social services in Pontevedra; by Manager of primary care in the province of Pontevedra; and the Provincial Director of the Galician health service in Pontevedra. He was also director general of the General mutual civil officials of the State (MUFACE), among others.
