Associations of persons with mental illness and family concerned ” by health care reform.

FEAFES rejects that care simply.

-FEAFES fears that much of this collective is left outside the conditions of assured ”, does not meet the requirements which establishes new rules

– according to associations, limiting attention to any social group to hospital emergencies is simply opt for the least effective way

-the entity asserts that quality mental health carealso improving treatments, assumed an important savings in public expenditure, since that medium-term reduces the costlier items

Madrid, may 2012.- after the validation in the Congress last Thursday of the Royal Decree Act of urgent measures to ensure the sustainability of the national health system ”the Spanish Confederation of groups of relatives and people with Mental illness (FEAFES) wants to show its concern that this rule severely reduce the quality of mental health care, violates rights of persons with disabilities, and abandon the public nature and the principle of universality existing so far.

Therefore the associative movement of persons with mental illness and family gathered at the FEAFES Confederacy wishes to express the following points:

the system of mental health care is woefully inadequate aún, so it is necessary to complete and increase the services provided through various resources, mainly Mental health units. The actions of the public administrations should be directed to the development and improvement of this network of services, not to its reduction or deterioration.

The implementation of the new rules of the national health Sistema broke the public nature and the principle of universality. Thus, is concerned that the new legislation harms economically through the copayment ” of drugs to people with chronic diseases, as it is the case of many mental disorders.

For con persons, mental illness and their families is very worrying the prospect of much of our collective being outside conditions of assured ”, does not meet the requirements which establishes new rules. Thousands of people with mental disorder as well would be violated his constitutional right to health.

In addition, FEAFES fears that such reforma harm especially to homeless persons and irregular migrants. In general, persons with mental disorder who belong to these groups excluded are undiagnosed. The requirements of documentation to meet them only cause a greater insulation and deterioration of some people that are already in a very vulnerable situation.

-At all levels, but particularly in the of mental health, the fact of limiting attention to any social group to hospital emergencies is simply opt for the least effective way to deal with these disorders, with personal and social problems that this performance would involve.

-The FEAFES Confederation says that the mental health care of quality, support continued at Community level may be, in addition to improving treatments, significant savings in public expenditure, since that in the medium term it reduces three of the more expensive items: Admissionsemergency services and the purchase of drugs.

– Above, the associative movement FEAFES wants to pass on to the set of public administrations willing to collaborate in everything involving the search for greater efficiency in socio-health spending, without affecting the quality of the services provided. Otherwise, FEAFES anticipates his frontal rejection that cuts adversely affect mental health care and involve the violation of fundamental rights of persons with mental illness and their families.
