Madrid, June of 2011- the Confederation Española de organizations of older (CEOMA) and the SM Foundation have failed the winners of the 13th edition of the national contest tell me about your grandfather. Tell me about your grandson.

this award aims to promote intergenerational dialogue and to highlight the relationship between grandparents and grandchildren.

works have consisted of a short story – with a maximum length of five sheets of paper – or in a drawing, which could use any technique and DIN A3 or DIN A4 format. In this Edition, 147 schools have participated and have been 6.580 work.

the winners of this 13th Edition have been in the category “ grandchildren ”, the orensana María González Feijoo work “ thanks, forever ”.

while, in the category “ grandparents ”, the winner has been the Sevillian Julio Ribas commas with his story “ the lamp of Aladdin ”.

Madrid, 2011-June last Wednesday, takes abuse awareness day and the abuse in old age, the National Confederation of organizations of older (CEOMA) reminded institutions the need to combat the abuse and mistreatment suffered by many elderly.

Within the larger population there are especially vulnerable to abuse, as they are more elderly people, those who have limited mobility or highly dependent, those with dementia, women and older persons with less income. There are many forms of abuse in the elderly: physical neglect, psychological, physical, economic and sexual abuse.

To combat a form of possible abuse, CEOMA has launched the program “ untie the elderly and Alzheimer’s patient ” which aims to establish a new pattern of care to ensure free of physical and chemical fastening attention. The pylons that are used by third party convenience or discipline are clear forms of abuse.

Currently in Spain, 80. 000 and 100,000 older can be subjected to physical or chemical pylons. The index of our country is the highest of the Nations of our environment.

In this context, CEOMA urges the authorities to that it commit themselves firmly in the fight against the abuse suffered by the elderly and reminded the media play an essential role to raise awareness in society of this scourge since that information is essential for its eradication.

Trigger to the elderly and Alzheimer’s patient

The program “ untie the elderly and Alzheimer’s patient ” was awarded the International Prize “ Prince of Viana customer unit ” 2010, and its purpose is to support all schools who request and who want to work to rationalize the use of pylons or achieve accredited as “ centre free of PYLONS ”.

He began his professional career in the direct care and worked for 12 years in a residence and day for elderly people specialized in public ownership Alzheimer Center. 10 Years he has held technical and policy positions in the Ministry of Social Welfare of the Principality of Asturias. He was head of planning services for older people and people with disability and later Director General of planning and quality.

Author of publications and scientific articles in the field of social gerontology and disability. Speaker at national and international congresses. He has collaborated in postgraduate courses and masters degrees in social gerontology at different Spanish universities and various projects of regional governments. He has worked also as a teacher and consultant in Latin America, with the IMSERSO, the Autonomous University of Madrid, with the AECI (Spanish Agency of cooperation with Latin America for development) and with the CEPAL (United Nations).

Madrid, June of 2011- the Confederation Española de organizations of older (CEOMA) launches a free service that homes will help to better understand their falls, and on that basis will guide on how you can improve your management.

this initiative is part of the program “ untie the elderly and Alzheimer’s disease patient ”, a project driven by CEOMA which defends the rational use of natural and pharmacological pylons. In this sense, Spain is the Western country that used pylons to decrease the number of falls.

However, studies have concluded that the use of these techniques does not prevent serious falls are older people who represent a decline in the quality of care to receive.

when the centres tend to use pylons show welfare deficits, particularly striking as regards prevention of falls refers.

in relation to the falls, Burgess acknowledged that “ there is no free fall centers ” and “ is normal for the people who live in homes fall ”, but it is necessary to know the limits, which are the inevitable fall?, what are the foreseeable?, envelope which can work to prevent them?, how many drops are acceptable?, etc..
