BENEO presents new solutions sweeteners with ISOMALT, Stevia and PalatinoseTM in the international confectionery fair of 2012

Madrid, January 2012- BENEO, one of the leading manufacturers of functional ingredients, will present a series of new solutions sweeteners in the edition of this year of the international confectionery fair (ISM). These solutions include samples of candy sugar-free flavored herbs made with ISOMALT and Stevia, as well as a new concept of bubble gum that, for the first time presents the BENEO (Isomaltulose) combined with Stevia PalatinoseTM *. Combining functional load sweeteners of BENEO with Stevia, can be found several nutritional and health benefits without compromising the taste and palatability of the final product.

Chewing gum with PalatinoseTM (and Stevia)

In the ISM, BENEO will present the ’first’ gum with PalatinoseTM and Stevia – chewing gum does not cause tooth decay which is entirely palatable. The combination of these ingredients reveals a sweetness resembles the sugar that successfully masks the taste to licorice sometimes associated with Stevia. With the growth of the market of the children’s chewing it represents 12.2 per cent of the value of the total market of gum worldwide (Euromonitor 2011), and product launches with Stevia which have more than tripled in 2010-2011 worldwide according to Mintel, the natural evolution is the combination of the benefits of Stevia with the nutritional and technical benefits of the sugar does not cause BENEO, PalatinoseTM caries.

The next generation of BENEO sugar can be processed as sucrose. Conservation tests have shown that both the texture of the nucleus and the crunch are similar to the chewing of sucrose. However, unlike sucrose, PalatinoseTM has a low Glycemic and not index causes tooth decay. Its slow dissolution kinetics helps release the flavors for a long time and its very low higroscopicidad increases the time for the conservation of the gum. In the ISM, BENEO also presented a candy without sugar-flavored herbs made with ISOMALT and Stevia. The combination of ISOMALT and Stevia promotes a wide variety of flavors without any negative aftertaste like that sometimes is associated with Stevia. This is due to the fact that ISOMALT enhances both the fruit flavors and subtle flavours and presents good stability, which guarantees that the taste of the product is not altered with the passage of time. The combination of ISOMALT and Stevia not only guarantees a profile of taste refined during the lifetime of the product, but it also produces other nutritional and technical benefits that include: without sugar, low Glycemic, does not cause tooth decay, low in calories and the sugar-like sweetness.

Both PalatinoseTM and ISOMALT are obtained from sugar beet and possess a sweetener similar profile. Recently, the European authority on food security (EFSA) has approved its glucémicos benefits and dental health. Both sweeteners cargo offer manufacturers an alternative to sugar, while providing benefits to consumers.
