Breastfeeding protects against obesity and its diseases associated.

the recommendation is to keep at least between 4 and 6 months.

Santander, July of 2012. The incorporation of women into the world of work and new life habits led to an increase of formula feeding for infants to the detriment of breastfeeding, trend which fortunately this revertiendo.

The good Professor of Pediatrics Manuel Sanchez, in the school of Nutrition Institute Danone – Francisco Grande Covián of the UIMP in Santander is limited: the formula milk has the only indication that there are no available human milk ”, always recognizing that it is very useful in such cases.

The good Professor, one of the great masters of Pediatrics at Spain, explains why: human milk has the proper composition and evolutionary, is changing its composition during a same outlet (contains more fat at the end of the outlet indicating the baby when must satisfy) and breastfeeding ”.

The effects of this adaptation, according to several studies, they note are that breastfeeding reduces the risk of obesity from the same nursing stage and the greater is the duration of breastfeeding, the incidence of obesity is less (the difference between suck only 2 months and do 10 multiplied by more than 4 the incidence of obesity). This protection also extends to the childhood and adulthood.

One of the factors that would explain this protection would be leptin contained in milk. It seems that their intake increases the expression of leptin receptor in adipose tissue, which they maintain throughout life and protect against obesity diet and pathologies like diabetes, atherosclerosis or hypertension-induced.

This is not the only advantage, because breast milk contains substances that protect from a point of view of the immune. During breastfeeding manifests itself in fewer respiratory and gastrointestinal infections.

The good Professor cites the large Professor Covian, who claimed that the only natural food is the breast milk ”, and recommended that the practice of breastfeeding for at least the first 4 to 6 months.
