COCEMFE, Mario Garcia, President says that it’s a change in approach to very important since legislation has traditionally focused on organizing health services and cure the disease, and with the new law reinforces a very important issue for our collective which is disease prevention ending causing disabilities ”.

The new law includes a catalogue of policies aimed at the prevention of health problems to reduce the incidence and prevalence of certain diseases, injuries and disabilities and attenuate its negative consequences.

Also, the standard has procedures to ensure the quality and safety of preventive action (injury prevention, vaccinations or early detection of disease) in Spain, and establishes that prevention is a coordinated multidisciplinary and action with action in all health areas: professionals of family and community care, nursing, workers in the social sphere, pharmacies, hospitals, etc.

According to the President of COCEMFE, “many of the gaps faced by people with disabilities and their families in their living conditions are motivated by the rigid separation between health services and social welfare in Spain. also, in many cases, lack of coordination between the two systems has subtracted effectiveness to the actions and has affected in a negative way to those in need” both services together and simultaneously ”.

Still much remains to be done to achieve a genuine public health area, but it seems that they are taking appropriate steps to resolve these situations. Therefore since COCEMFE call the Executive comes out elected at the next general election which empower socio-sanitary coordination with measures such as the expansion and updating of providing prosthetics of the health system to suit the needs of persons with disabilities ”, calls for the President of the entity.

The future standard also establishes as a principle action in public health-general obligation to incorporate the gender perspective and the provision of a specific attention to the needs of persons with disabilities.

Is of special relevance the change this law operates on the law of cohesion and quality of the national health system in 2003, since it incorporates the provision of public health actions aimed at prevention and early detection of rare diseases and support to people who have them and their families ”, says García.
