AMES held a meeting of people affected by myasthenia.

Madrid, November 2011- aimed at family and affected all Spain, the meeting was attended in its opening interventions by the Mayor of Valladolid, Francisco Javier León la Riva, and the Provincial delegate of Valladolid, Rosa Mª Tejero Martín.

The day featured different workshops as the of “ Mindfulness ”, who helped the participants to learn how to use the wisdom of the body and mind to face stress, pain and illness. It also included two presentations that provided information and overcome doubts about the disease and address the psychological aspects in those affected; as well as the presentation of different projects of AMES, as tele-assistance programme for affected of Myasthenia Gravis.

Myasthenia is a disease of unknown origin, chronic, autoimmune approximately 6,000 people in Spain and is characterized by weakness and fatigue of the skeletal or volunteers from the exclusive body muscles. Weakness and fatigue are the result of a malfunction in the neuromuscular junction, which in most cases is caused by the existence of some antibodies that block neuromuscular transmission.

Spain, 2011 November- 15 November gave beginning the LXIII annual meeting of the Spanish society of Neurologí(SEN), an encounter developed until November 19 in the Palau de Congress in Barcelona, and brought together more than 3,000 national and international experts with the aim of presenting the latest advances in neurological research as well as new treatments and approaches of different diseases and neurological pathologies.

Diseases affecting the nervous system have, in addition to a high incidence and prevalence, considerable social significance because of their impact on the physical and mental capacity of patients. Diseases such as stroke and Alzheimer’s disease, are leaders in mortality and disability and others, such as epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis or migraine, among others, are very disabling, are implied severe social repercussions and pose a serious public health problem. Neurological diseases are responsible for 23% of the years of life lost to premature death, of 50% of the years lost due to disability and 35 per cent of the global burden of disease in Europe.

According to the data managed by the Spanish society of Neurology, more than 7.5 million Spaniards suffer any neurological disease, representing 16% of the population. But in addition, 1,500,000 people suffer serious neurological diseases.

Neurological diseases impact like no other in the family, social and professional environment of the individual. It is estimated that its social cost can be up to 10 times greater than the health cost. With these data, and taking into account that neurological diseases are responsible for almost 50% of all disabling diseases, research represents only gateway improvement and recovery. In this sense, the annual meeting of the SEN seeks each year to address major developments that have occurred in the field of Neurology, with the aim of enhancing the research and knowledge of these diseases.

At the annual meeting of the SEN carried out more than 70 activities divided into courses, workshops, meetings, seminars, plenary lectures, workshops, competitions, presentations, stellar communications and assemblies and 390 oral communications and 588 posters were presented. In addition, this year, elections for the renewal of the directive Board of the Spanish society of Neurology and was presented the short film “Guess who’s coming to lunch tomorrow”, a tape that was intended to reflect the image of the neurologist in humorous.

Increasing the daily consumption of fruit and vegetables and increase our level of physical activity can we reduce the occurrence of the disease in more than 50%. Good news for our health if we bear in mind that diabetes increases the risk of other diseases as cardiovascular as myocardial infarction.

For this reason, within the healthy people strategy 2010-2015, Madrid health has designed the programme of food, physical activity and health, which it seeks to identify citizens with increased risk of developing diabetes to help them change their lifestyle so that it prevents or delays the onset of the illness.

The Vinalopó Department celebrated World Diabetes Day with activities aimed at the citizens.

Elx, November of 2011- the Department of health of Vinalopó, commemorated on Monday 14 November World Diabetes Day with a program of activities aimed both to citizens and professionals of health.

It’s a campaign of public awareness to detect the particular bias of each patient to suffer from diabetes in order to prevent this disease. Health professionals in the vinalopo Valley Health Department have been responsible for directing this day which took place simultaneously in the cities of Elche and Crevillente Aspe and involving different activities.

In this regard, last Monday from early in the morning concerned citizens have been able to attend an information stand which was made available in each of the health centres of the Department, which could get recommendations on what are the healthier living habits and information on how to prevent diabetes and how to identify its symptoms.

There are currently 250 million diabetics worldwide and 300 million more at risk of being. For this reason, this campaign has had intended convey to the patient who must take the reins of his illness because of them depends on the evolution of the same.

Information stands, was tested free of blood glucose, voltage and the test FINDRISK, composed of 8 questions, which measures the risk of developing diabetes over 10 years.
