Madrid, 2011-November on the occasion of World Diabetes Day, El Ayuntamiento de Madrid through Madrid health set up a tent in the curve of the Retiro Park rose garden in which all citizens who approached have been able to know their risk of developing diabetes and receive tips on nutrition and physical activity.

Combating overweight and obesity, which affects one of every two people of Madrid and one of every three Madrid, through the adoption of healthy habits is an essential tool when it comes to stem the rising incidence of diabetes, a disease that affects 14% of our citizens.

Increasing the daily consumption of fruit and vegetables and increase our level of physical activity can we reduce the occurrence of the disease in more than 50%. Good news for our health if we bear in mind that diabetes increases the risk of other diseases as cardiovascular as myocardial infarction.

For this reason, within the healthy people strategy 2010-2015, Madrid health has designed the programme of food, physical activity and health, which it seeks to identify citizens with increased risk of developing diabetes to help them change their lifestyle so that it prevents or delays the onset of the illness.

Madrid health has prepared a preventive video about diabetes that can be seen here.
