Santo Domingo, 2 sep (EFE).-Dominican Republic reported today that amounted to 128 by cholera and almost 17,000 deaths affected, although the local health authorities say that the trend is that it will decrease the number of patients.

“With the report of the last two weeks combined 16.919 suspected cases nationwide and 128 deaths since last year”, explained a document of the Ministry of health public.

However, the Agency says that 406 suspected cholera cases reported last week in the country represent a considerable reduction of more than 1,000 registered during epidemiological week 22, in May of this year.

El Distrito Nacional and Santo Domingo province, which concentrates the majority of the population, remain as the districts with the highest incidence of the evil.

Public health, also reported, that maintains preventive actions throughout the country and include strict monitoring of diarrhoea cases arriving at health centres to the purification of water, latrine construction and installation of sanitary mobile points strategic.

Stressed that all public assistance centers are stocked with supplies and personnel to adequately meet people with symptoms of cholera or any other disease. EFE
