Foreclosures affect half of pharmacies at end of year.

-the health administrations shall 2,262 million euros to 11.323 pharmacies, half of the existing

– the endorsement of State, as often requested by FEFE, is emerging as the best and perhaps the only solution

-decline in spending, the number of recipes and, above all, in the average price of exempted medicines

Madrid, November 2011- A further decline in the data for the consumption of drugs, the map defaults in Spanish pharmacies and a few comments on the study risk of the welfare State in drug delivery and proposals for an efficient model ”, presented last week by the Business Federation of Spanish pharmaceutical (FEFE)they complete the drug Observatory of this month.

The situation of defaults is taking place in nine autonomous communities presents a very different characteristics from other episodes that have occurred in the past, they have to do with compliance with the levels of deficit imposed by the European Union and, above all, with the lack of tax revenue and credit restriction. This Observatory shows the State of liquidation of the turnover of recipes in all communities and the commitments undertaken by them with the Ministry of economy in the so-called financial economic Plan (FSP). It follows that there will be more than four months defaults in Castilla La-Mancha, Balearic Islands and Valencian Community and delays between one and three months in Catalonia, Andalusia, Canary Islands, Cantabria and La Rioja. The region of Murcia has begun to pay after a delay of five months funded by appropriations of own pharmacists.

Delays end of the year will exceed the 2,262 million and will affect 11.323 pharmacies which is about half of the existing. The only way out of this very serious situation that can lead to the shortages and the collapse of the provision, as well as affect the individual viability of pharmacies and other actors of the sector, is the guarantee of the State, urged the Government by FEFE, emerging as the best, and perhaps the only solution, in this crisis.

descends spending

on the other hand, the trend of decline in expenditure and the average price of prescriptions continues deepening it this month. The number of recipes remains stable, something that already happened in the previous month.

The forecasts in the short term, although they show a growth of indicators cannot be attributed more than an occasional phenomenon, which is why it is not easy to keep in the months of October and November, although with a predictable recovery or stabilisation in the growth of the number of recipes.

But in September there were declines in all CC.AA, producing increases only in the cities of Ceuta and Melilla. Communities with smaller declines are Asturias (- 0.18%); Cantabria (- 1.88 per cent); Extremadura (- 1.45%); Madrid (- 1.71%); Navarre (- 0.78%) and Basque (- 1.87%). Communities with larger decreases are Castilla – La Mancha (- 9,62%); Canary (- 12,85%); Galicia (- 9,28%); Murcia (- 11,37%) and Valencia (- 9,38%)

The number of prescriptions has a turnover of 79.0 million, representing a decrease of (0.23) % over the same month of the previous year, which was 79.2 million; spending decreases (6.20) % and the average prescription spending decreases (- 5.98) %.

Annual spending drops (8.85) %; prescriptions rose by 2.29% and average prescription spending decreases 10,89-%.

The Canary Islands this month presents the largest decline. To the generalized in the coming months the prescription by active ingredient, we look forward to assess the effect of this measure, but we play it will have little impact because the lower prices at a level which shall not be possible large savings for the system, however the new wording of article 85 conditions increases in stocks with negative economic consequences for the economy of pharmacies.

Finally, the study commissioned by FEFE risks of the welfare State in drug delivery and proposals for an efficient model ” will highlight some of the major problems of our healthcare model. This study proposes a package of measures aimed at improving the efficiency of pharmaceutical care: pharmaceutical intervention in chronic processes; dispensing in pharmacies of drugs given in hospitals to prevent its effect of covert copayment, and limiting the coverage of medicinal products intended for minor diseases. Measures that might pose a positive impact around 4,000 million pesetas.
