HLL develops a new system to control effectively the consumption of material in a hospital.

Barcelona, December of 2011- Health Lean Logistics (HLL), pioneer and specialized in the design, implementation and management of solutions in the area of logistics and purchasing of the health sector, has developed and successfully implemented the SupplyBox, a product registered by HLL and designed to optimize logistics centers health.

The SupplyBox is presented as an intelligent mailbox that automates hospital material replenishment orders in real time, before that they run out on floor, and offers detailed information on the consumption. In this sense, the system integrates a software application, the HLLogint, that HLL has created specifically for the hospital sector with the aim of optimising the functioning of health centres.

Promotion of savings

The SupplyBox can save for health centres by reducing inventories at the points of consumption between 20-30% as well as the time nursing dedicated to logistical tasks, representing 5,000 hours per year or the equivalent of 30 nurses working hours.

Also, this system guarantees the traceability of products throughout the supply chain, with a perfect monitoring and recording of information, in order to detect and correct errors.

Simple operation

The operation of the SupplyBox is very simple, that incorporates a tags NFC reader that recognizes the identification cards of each product when workforce introduces them a slot at the time that it is about to run out. The SupplyBox reads data from the card and automatically make the request to the central server. Communication between the SupplyBox and the HLL server is via Ethernet, Wi-Fi or UMTS.

Proven success

This product has been implemented successfully in a pilot test in the Hospital of Sabadell of the Corporació Sanitària Parc Taulí (Catalonia) and has already proved its effectiveness in various hospitals in Brazil and expected to do so soon in the US market.

Specifically, in the Hospital in Sabadell, with a total of 900 beds and 80 cost centers, 80 SupplyBox distributed by different plants have already been installed successfully and which have resulted in increased productivity and improved quality.

In particular, the benefits derived by the fact of having detailed information on the consumption in real time, ranging from a reduction of fluctuation in demand from 22% to 5%, so it decreases tips work; optimisation of logistical personnel by 25%, a reduction of 60% of the application of emergency.

These teams are managed centrally from a web interface, from which you have access to the statistics of each SupplyBox and you can proceed to your configuration. adaptation of the latest technologies for the health sector HLL has created and is currently developing tools that incorporate the latest technologies and improve the functioning of health centres providing a savings in time and money from automating and optimizing the processes of health management.

In particular, the HLLogint is a platform for management of the internal logistics of hospital based on new technologies such as RFID and an extension of it, Near Field Communication (NFC), which allows the exchange of data between devices less than 10 cm.

Radio frequency identification (RFID) technology allows to carry out modern logistics management at consumption points existing in a hospital. For example, this tool offers the information necessary to the warehouse personnel and health care to control the behavior of consumption and stocks available at the points of consumption to ensure the continued availability of the necessary material. In this sense, brings both logistical and welfare benefits – a much quicker identification of material, reducing breakage of stock and errors, optimization of the routes of supply or information on costs per patient – they facilitate work at the health centre staff and ensure a correct, fast and efficient customer care.

The SupplyBox product incorporates the NFC, the communication of data 3 G technology and Wi-Fi wireless technology. NFC technology is not currently available commercially, but is being introduced in the world of mobile communications as an alternative to short-range communication more secure. This system provides reliability and no inferences with medical apparatus, as well as a transmission request material ontime.

To keep abreast of the most innovative technologies and those not previously used in the health sector, HLL has a continuous evolution of products and innovation strategy in hospital management systems, providing the solution to reduce costs in health supply chaincontrol and manage these areas and exempt of logistics tasks to providers, automating processes and, thus, enabling them to offer greater dedication to patients.
