Mexico, 24 feb ( EFE).-A total of 166 people were killed has left the influenza AH1N1 in Mexico since the beginning of the year, which represents an increase of 23% in the number of deaths in a week, according to data disclosed today by the authorities.

The total number of deaths from influenza H1N1 reported by the Ministry of health of Mexico from January 1 to February 16 was 135.

The Ministry of Health said in a statement that from January 1 to February 23, 2012 is confirmed 5.544 cases and 180 deaths by any of the three types of influenza viruses circulating in the country.

Of those figures, 5.042 (91%) cases and 166 (92%) deaths were due to the H1N1 variety.

89% Of people who have died this year in the country by influenza were not vaccinated, and 73% had another disease, being the most common diabetes mellitus, obesity and high blood pressure.
