Madrid Rio hosts a European exhibition on how space improves our everyday life. From 12 to 18 February.

Madrid, 2013-February the Esplanade of the King’s bridge (near Príncipe Pío station) hosts from 12 to 18 February a free exhibition that highlights how space applications and activities have a direct impact on the daily life of citizens. More than 30. 000 applications depend on space technologies, which, for example, can contribute to optimize transport, increase efficiency in agriculture and fisheries, protect the environment or improve security.

After the great success obtained in 7 European cities last year, the exhibition will continue his career in another dozen of cities in Europe. In Madrid, the exhibition will take place from 12 to 18 February on the Esplanade of the King’s bridge, next to the station of Príncipe Pío, where visitors of all ages can see, touch and experience the wide range of technologies and innovative services offered by space.

The exhibition is scheduled to match it with the workshop on research and space exploration to the European Commission held in Madrid on 18 and 19 February. The entrance to the European space exhibition is free and will be offered the information in several languages.

Simultaneously to this exhibition, experts in technologies applied to the space will give several conferences in fields related to scientific missions, Earth observation and navigation satellite, among others, that will highlight the many advantages that have space in our society.

Context

By investing in the flagships of the EU, Galileo and Copernicus (previously known as GMES – European surveillance program of the Earth), the citizens of Europe will benefit from multiple services and applications creators of global market opportunities, contributing to foster job creation and economic growth.

He is expected that Copernicus will provide benefits of a value, at a minimum, between four and ten times the investment required.

The European space industry currently represents 5.4 billion euros a year and employs more than 31,000 people highly qualified labour.
