Madrid, 13 feb ( EFE).-the Minister of health, Social services and equality, Ana Mato, it is proposed to promote the functioning of the State Observatory on violence against women, which will have “an important role” in the fight against sexist violence.

Mato has today chaired the plenary of the Observatory, whose establishment is provided for in the law against gender violence, and its function is the advise, evaluate, prepare reports and proposals for action on this issue.

Department of Mato said in a statement that the meeting was held within the framework of the national strategy for the eradication of gender violence, which the Minister announced last Thursday at his hearing in the Equality Commission of the Congress.

Addition of Mato have come, among others, the Secretary of State for social services and equality, Juan Manuel Moreno, representatives of the ministries of Justice, Interior, finance and public administration, and education, culture and sports.

State institutions such as the General Council of the judiciary and the Prosecutor’s Office against violence on women, the autonomous communities and local entities have also been represented.

As it provides for the regulation of the Observatory have been present associations of women, business organizations, trade unions, associations of consumers, NGOs and experts in the study of violence against women.

To all of them, as says the communiqué, the Minister asked “collaboration” to optimize policies aimed at ending gender-based violence and objectives is marked, among others, support the victims, so that they denounce and unpunished any aggressor.

“Silence is an accomplice of violence”, emphasised Mato, who has been fixed also as priority assistance to minors who live with the victims and “special attention” to women who are in situations of greater vulnerability.

As attendees to the full, according to the Ministry, the request has been received “a positive” and has expressed its willingness to work on this.

The Observatory State will have an “important role” in this work and will make a diagnosis of the magnitude of the phenomenon and of its evolution, to advise “more rigorous” policies in this field.
