Quito, 13 feb (EFE).-the Mayor of Bogotá, Gustavo Petro, today signed a cooperation agreement on disability with the Vice President of Ecuador, which will send three teams of experts to that city to report on the “Manuela Espejo” program, which has helped thousands of people in this country.

At the ceremony of subscription, the Secretary general of the Vice-President of Ecuador, Armando Hunt, said that thanks to a study of the program “Manuela Espejo” determined the existence of 294,000 people with some type of disability in Ecuador and developed public policies in support.

Petro regretted that much of the cities are not made to accommodate disabled people and have been rather the people with a deficiency which have had to attach to the cities.

Therefore said that it wants to make a “human Bogotá” hosting the disabled who, he said, are “subjects of rights”, among them, health.

A form of speeches to the practice, said the Mayor, is reflected in the signing of agreements such as the subscribed today in the center of Integral attention Manuela Espejo (Caime).

The three brigades that will come to Bogotá transmit knowledge and experiences on disabilities in Ecuador to implement projects of prevention, care and rehabilitation of persons with disabilities.

In August 2011, Vice President Ecuador Colombia Lenín Moreno, and Angelino Garzón, respectively, started the process with the signing of an initial agreement to replicate the programme carried out in Ecuador since 2009 in Colombia.

Since Ecuador has already delivered 300,000 technical AIDS for persons with disabilities, said Hunt.

Addition, the programme has developed “Joaquín Gallegos Lara” for 15,000 persons with severe physical or intellectual disabilities, who has provided care, besides a bonus of $ 240 per month to the caregiver to the affected.

The project is driven by Moreno, who more than one decade ago is in a wheelchair after being shot in an assault.

On the signing of the Convention, reported on the mission “Manuela Espejo” the candidates for miss Ecuador 2012, who were conmovidas by the transmitted images of children with disabilities in a video on the work of the experts who toured the country in search of people with disabilities.

The Director of the Club of the Ichthyosis, Valeska Saab, exmiss world Ecuador 2007, took the candidates visit to thank the support announced by the Vice-Presidency to thirty people affected by the disease, especially located in the coastal province of Manabi. EFE
