More than 2,000 professionals in psychiatry and mental health met in Oviedo in the most important annual meeting of all Latin America.

XV Congress of Psychiatry

Oviedo, November 2011- Tuesday 8th began in the Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos of Oviedo the 15th National Congress of Psychiatry, the most important mental health of Latin America scientific event and focuses on the capital the Principality to the most outstanding representatives of world psychiatry.

Thus, organized by the Spanish society of Psychiatry (SEP), the Spanish society of Biological Psychiatry (SEPB) and the Spanish Foundation of Psychiatry and Mental Health (FEPSM), the event welcomed over two thousand professionals in mental health, both Spanish and foreign, in addition to the assistance of the leaders of the World Psychiatric Association (WPA), the European Association of Psychiatry (EPA) and the Psychiatric Association of Latin America (APAL).

As has been pointed out at the opening of the Congress Professor Julio Bobes, President of the Organizing Committee and the SEPB, and Professor of Psychiatry of the University of Oviedo, among the main topics that will be addressed at the Congress, include the presentation of the manifesto of Oviedo against stigma in Mental healthNews from the international classification of diseases (ICD-11), the State of neuropsychiatric diseases in Europe and advances in early diagnosis of these diseases, the developments in the field of genetics.

Also be talked about addictions, gender-based violence, impact on children’s mental health from abuse, suicide, disorders of eating and sleeping, etc.

Also, the entry into force of the new regulation on active ingredient influences our requirements and it can cause problems with adherence to the treatment of persons with serious mental illness. For its part, the Spanish society of Biological Psychiatry (SEPB) awarded II Prize to emerging researchers, the sixth Prize to young researchers accredited, the VI reference researchers award, III Prize to the researcher of the year, III Prize lifetime achievement in research, the award for the best Doctoral thesis course 2009-2010 and the 16th Award “Amadeus Sánchez Blanqué” on researchón clinic in psychiatry.

Finally, the European College of American (ECNP) presented his II award to the best posters in Neuropsicofarmacología.
