lima, 2 mar (EFE).-the Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Mirta Roses, today received the commitment of the Peruvian Government and the first lady, Nadine Heredia, work together on the reduction of child malnutrition and the protection of motherhood, after a visit to Lima.

Roses met today with the wife of the Peruvian President, Ollanta Humala, to address the situation of some of the issues of greatest concern for PAHO, as child malnutrition that affects 18 per cent of children under five in Peru.

A press release from the Government Palace reported that, after the meeting, it was agreed “joint efforts in the medium term to reduce child malnutrition rates”.

Also assessed the possibility of holding the next meeting of the safe maternity initiative, posed to reduce by three-quarters, between 1990 and 2015, the maternal mortality ratio, in Peru.

In both Roses thanked Heredia for good practices in health of the Peru that have allowed to enter the “Record Guinness the washing of hands”, due to the participation of 604.246 Peruvian school in a simultaneous washing of hands in October of last year.

In other official activity, Roses was awarded by the Peruvian Health Minister, Alberto Tejada, with the command “Hipólito Unanue”, in the grade of Grand Officer in merit to his outstanding work for the health of the Americas.

“Is a visionary who always did work with all sectors of health.” “Therefore, we are interested in that will help us to develop the Plan concluded with a look of health 2020, focused within the framework of the quality in health” said Tejada during his speech.

The Minister of health noted that Peru “is interested in create a new space with a view to preventing non-communicable diseases” (like cancer, diabetes and obesity), one of the current priorities of PAHO.

“On its merits, the President sends his feeling more fraternal to collaborate with their actions for social inclusion (…)” “because there is no development without health”, added Tejada.

Roses was halagada by the decoration and emphasized that the Peruvian Government has coincided with PAHO in giving priority to the prevention of non-communicable diseases.
