Press release of the Spanish society of plastic surgery, reconstructive and aesthetic (SECPRE).

Madrid, December 2011.- in relation to the news published in the media which exposes the intention, local entertainment of Seville, bypass in the coming days, among its clients, a cosmetic surgery operation, in collaboration with a clinic aesthetic headquartered in the Sevillian capital, the SECPRE, as representative of practically all Spanish plastic surgeons scientific society, wishes to express the following considerations:

-the SECPRE is opposed to any activity where there is the slightest risk or probability of turning medicine into a spectacle.

-The SECPRE wants to highlight the lack of ethics of these actions on the basis of the frivolity with which it is a doctor of physical and psychological issue, where not is is taking into account the role of the health professional as an expert who must decide whether it is appropriate or not perform a surgery.

-The SECPRE disapproves this type of competition because it goes against the principles and values which society has spread among its members and the general population since its creation.

-The SECPRE highlights the risk posed to the youth population converting plastic surgery in a game. The specialty of plastic surgery, reconstructive and aesthetic is an integral part of medicine and, as such, it must be exercised, explained, supported and executed by experts, in this case, plastic surgeons.
