Brasilia, 4 Apr ( EFE).- the President of Brazil, Dilma Rousseff, now banished the possibility to discuss proposed “fanciful” in the Conference of UN on sustainable development Río+20, to be held in Rio de Janeiro next June.

“A conference like this has no space for fantasy,” said Rousseff in a speech during a public meeting with Ministers on issues of climate change, held today at the presidential Planalto Palace

The President pointed out that the Mission of the Río+20 is to “propose a new paradigm of growth that it seems absurdly Ethereal or fanciful” and taking into account that “millions and millions of people” living “without the minimum conditions”.

“We must explain to people how they will eat, how are going to have access to water and energy.” Not can tell it that the only planet with wind and solar energy can illuminate. “Can not in any way”, stated.

Rousseff argued that one must “understand” that many countries lack resources to implement a renewable energy matrix, as it is the case of Brazil, which produces nearly 80 percent of its electricity in hydroelectric plants.

In the opinion of the head of State, Brazil must assume a position of “leadership” in the Río+20 to expose their experience in sustainable development, although with “humility” because the South American country must”do more”.

La Río+20 will be held in Rio de Janeiro between the next 20 and 22 June, 20 years after the Earth Summit, convened in the same city in 1992, which laid the foundations for the concept of sustainable development.

Organizers expect the participation of a hundred heads of State and Government in this event, which aims to trace new goals to improve in the next few years the relationship between economic development and nature care.

One of the proposals which has achieved a greater degree of consensus among negotiators, according to Brazilian sources, is the need to reform the programme of the United Nations for the environment (UNEP) to assign a stable budget and provide it with executive functions.
