Barcelona, November of 2011- the Congregation of hospital Sisters of the sacred heart of Jesus has been named partner of Honor of the society Spanish of Psychiatry (SEP), in recognition of her work for the attention and care of psychiatric patients over 130 years, since its founding in 1881.

The award ceremony took place in the course of the closing ceremony of the 15th National Congress of Psychiatry, held in Oviedo, on November 11, 2011.

Sor Maria road Agós, Superior General of the Congregation, was in charge of collecting the award, in the hands of the President of the SEP, Professor Jerónimo Saiz Ruiz, and the Secretary of the same, the doctor Manuel Martín Carrasco, who he is, in turn, director physician of the psychiatric clinic father Menni of Pamplona.

On the hospital Sisters of the sacred heart of Jesus

The Congregation of the sisters Hospital of the sacred heart of Jesus was founded in 1881 by San Benito Menni, Member of the order of San Juan de Dios, María Josefa Recio and María Angustias Jiménez Vera. The three founders felt the need to create an institution to give response to the situation of health abandonment and social exclusion which lived the mentally ill at the time, especially women. The first Center was founded in Ciempozuelos, a few kilometres from Madrid.

Since then, the work of the Congregation has spread around the world and today the hospital is present in 24 countries of Europe, America, Asia and Africa. In total, more than 1,000 religious and some 10,000 lay partners make it possible the implantation and development of the Apostolic mission of the hospital sisters around the world. All they strive to provide patients and covered persons in the different centers comprehensive care, including physical, psychological, social and spiritual.
