Barcelona, January 2012- Dexeus Foundation health of the women go through 2012 a total of one million euros to projects of promotion of research on health of women, teaching projects and outreach and corporate social responsibility actions. So he announced at the VIII Edition of the award ceremony and the Scholarship Foundation Dexeus women’s health Dr. Pedro N. Barri, director of the Department of obstetrics, Gynecology and reproduction of USP Instituto Universitario Dexeus and President of the Foundation. Among the most emblematic projects of the Foundation Dexeus women’s health, are the fellowships to young researchers and the prize for research, which this year was awarded to Dr. Manel Esteller, Director of the programme of Epigenetics and biology of the cancer (PEBC) of the Institute of biomedical research of Bellvitge (IDIBELL) by his long professional career devoted to research. Dr Esteller received the award from the hands of the Director-general of regulation, planning, and health resources, Dr. Carles constant, who attended on behalf of the Minister of health Boi Ruiz. Dr. constant stressed that the lines of research are the hope of our health care system ” and that is why is essential to prioritize research to ensure that this commitment will help us to move forward ”.

Dr Esteller, internationally recognized in the field of the epigenetic, leads a team of 70 scientists from around the world to study the environmental factors that cause tumors from Bellvitge. The renowned scientist wanted to demonstrate the high quality of Catalan professionals, for years, are devoting their careers to research to improve the quality of life of people. Within the framework of the celebration, the own Dr. Barri presented scholarships that annually grants the Foundation for projects of clinical research in the field of general Gynecology, Gynecology Oncology, maternal fetal medicine, medicine of reproduction and basic sciences. The winners of the scholarships of the 2011 women Foundation Health Dexeus have been:

-Edurne Novella master of the Hospital Universitario La Fe, Valencia, by the project activation and maturation of oocytes.

-Magdalena Sanz Cortés, the research group of medicine Fetal of Hospital Clínic, study of neurodevelopmental through various techniques of magnetic resonance imaging and its association with neurodevelopmental.

-Laia Bernet Vegué Hospital Lluis Alacanyis of Valencia, by the project differential expression of the profile proteome in Sentinel lymph node metastatic and non-metastatic breast cancer

-Yolanda Jerez Gilarranz, Hospital Gregorio Marañón in Madrid by the characterization of the expression of APRIL and its recepctores in the breast cancer and evaluation of their potential application in clinic.

-Aitana breaststroke Boils, the Hospital Universitario La Fe, Valencia, by the project on the influence of the microRNA on systems angiogénicos and proteolíticos involved in the endometriosis.

The women health Dexeus Foundation aims to serve health culture of the country spreading all scientific, teaching and research activities related to the specialty of obstetrics and gynaecology and reproductive medicine through to promote scientific and research activities, and to organize educational activities. The Foundation gives grants to research; It offers social care services, and cooperates with the Research Chair in obstetrics and Gynecology of the UAB, among other activities. Within the framework of care of a social nature, the Foundation also carries out a program of preserving fertility in cancer patient, genital reconstruction post ablation and attention to disabled women.
