Madrid, December of 2011- the Foundation Queen Sofia has been awarded by Foundation technology, and health and the Spanish Federation of health technology companies)(Fenin), in recognition for his work key ” in the improvement of the quality of life of people and as the engine of scientific innovation.

The Foundation Queen Sofia has received award 2011 best support organization people ”, an award that recognizes the shared commitment of the sector of health technology with organizations struggling every day to improve the health and quality of life of some social groups.

With the Foundation, Dr. Julio Mayol, director of innovation of the Hospital Clínico San Carlos of Madrid, the Fundació Parc Taulí-Institut Universitari UAB and the supplement have been awarded life and health ” of the La Vanguardia Newspaper.

These awards recognize the crucial role of institutions, agencies and professionals in the enhancement of health as a key element in the improvement of the quality of life of people and technology as the engine of scientific innovation.

In this sense, Margarita Alfonsel, general Secretary of Fenin, has referred to the work of the Foundation since 2002 and has pointed out that investigations in new pharmacological therapies, technologies applied to the unit or work in support to caregivers have deserved international recognition of the Foundation and has been located at the Spanish biomedical research in diseases neurodegenerative at the global forefront ”.

Foundation technology and health

Foundation technology and health is an entity promoted by the Spanish Federation of companies of health technology (Fenin) which aims to contribute to the improvement of health and quality of life of citizens, to spread the benefits to health technology brings to society. The Foundation’s activities focus on promoting research, development and innovation in new technologies for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases that impact directly for the benefit of the patient and the efficiency of the national health system.

Fenin

The Spanish Federation of companies of health technology (Fenin) groups the companies manufacturers, importers and distributors of health technology whose common characteristic is the be suppliers of all the Spanish sanitary institutions. Fenin carries out coordination, representation, management, promotion and defence of the General and common interests of its associate companies.

Established in 1977, Fenin comprises thirteen sectors, which includes more than 500 companies manufacturers and distributors, representing more than 80% of the total volume of market of health technologies.

The Foundation Reina Sofía

The Fundación Reina Sofia, founded in May 1977, is a joint entity of charitable and cultural character without spirit of profit and of a permanent nature. Since 1994, manages and promotes numerous projects education and health, as well as social and humanitarian aid which benefited children, adults, immigrants, disabled persons and affected by natural disasters.

From 2002 to 2007, one of the main lines of action of the Foundation Queen Sofia has been Alzheimer’s project, whose main exponent is today the Queen Foundation Alzheimer Center Sofia, opened in 2007 in Vallecas, where they have carried out so far 27 research projectssix of them at the international level. It has also generated more than 60 scientific publications and 38 communications at congresses and scientific meetings.

This year, the Foundation Reina Sofia carried out, with Pasqual Maragall Foundation, various events on the occasion of the international year of the research in Alzheimer’s disease 2011, which should be among the World Summit on research in Alzheimer’s disease that was held in Madrid last September.
