Contests are framed within the programme of cultural activities of the Hospital Centre for 2010.

Santurce, 2010-April The San Juan Santurtzi Dios Hospital has decided to extend the deadline for submission of works for the third edition of its photography and literature contests. The reason is that part of enabled within coincided with Easter holidays, so insofar as the literary contest – aimed at schoolchildren of the area, the final available time has been lower than in previous years.

In this way, and in order to facilitate maximum participation in both initiatives, the previous deadline for receipt of works (April 30), becomes now on May 21, Friday. Consequently, the decision of the juries will establish the winners of the two competitions was also postponed and is finally fixed before June 4.

The theme for this edition is still solidarity ”, in its broadest sense. The awards for both competitions comprise two separate awards de300 euros in material – photographic and school, according to the case-, and three consolation prizes in each category, including diplomas and trophies.

Literary contest

The literary competition for school children is one of the main references in this area for several schools and homonym of the left bank, mining zone and Bilbao. One of the characteristics of the contest is the large share of young people who have literary stories written in Basque, encouraging artistic creation in the Basque language. Also notable is the majority presence of girls among the authors of the stories. The works can be written in prose and in verse, with a maximum of three pages, double-spaced.

Photo contest

The photo contest is also showing a great reception among the population of Ezkerraldea, that of the 92 photographs submitted to the first edition, went last year to a total of 120.

Competitors may submit maximum two pictures on paper and digital (CD-ROM, DVD or USB flash drive), either in black and white or in color.
