Thus defines doctor Benjamin Abarca, President of the Spanish society of General physicians and of family (SEMG), one of the arguments that led to this scientific society to create chairs of family in different faculties Spanish to bring closer to the University the enormous amount of work that plays on a daily basis the general practitioner and family. And the first was precisely this SEMG Chair of Medicine of family of the University of Santiago de Compostela facing his fifth school year, with the support of the Sociedade Galega of doctors Xerais and family (SEMG-Galicia). The presentation of their activities took place last week in the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC).

Is the bet for practical and interactive training

Following the line formation that characterizes the SEMG, the offer of the Chair for the 2011-2012 academic year focuses on workshops that combine the theoretical base with an eminent practical development, limiting the number of seats per session for an optimal use of the training. This year the content will focus on three basic lines of action, which will be evaluated in the practical part of the subject of clinical medical surgical:

-cardiopulmonary resuscitation (basic and instrumentalizada; semi-automatic defibrillation)

-minor surgery

-respiratory (including the learning of skills in the techniques of the spirometry)(, the pulsiometría and the ‘ peak flow ’)

A scholarship to enhance research…

The Chair invites again this year an award the best proposal of research project in family medicine, with the objectives to promote and develop research into the practice of medicine from the University. The commitment of our society ”, explains Dr. Pilar Rodriguez Ledo, Deputy Director of the Chair, it is to promote research from the stage of their training as students and why they are offered technical support, through the Chair research area, for the development of the project ”.

Cooperation, solidarity, and family medicine is the title that bears the scholarship for the second year convened by the Chair. You will allow, one of the 5 th or 6 th of Medicine of USC students, working in the unit Clínico-Docente of Ciudad Sandino (Nicaragua) whose creation and development pushed the SEMG-solidarity Foundation. The development of this scholarship will be held under the supervision of the director of the Chair, Dr. José Antonio Tower Carballada.
