Spain, February 2013.- The Spanish society of Arteriosclerosis (be) recently introduced the section of secondary prevention and high Cardiovascular risk, a project that will contribute to improving the assistance of all those patients who suffered ischemic pathology caused by arteriosclerosis.

The new section of the scientific society was founded with determination to lead knowledge in secondary prevention of arteriosclerosis, i.e. of those patients who have already suffered a vascular accident, both from the point of view of the patient and research ”, explains the President of the SEAFernando Civeira.

The initiative, related to vascular health, national experts participate in which allows one to generate scientific knowledge, analyze the advances that occur in this field, as well as an international discussion and transmission of knowledge to all the professionals of the country involved in this disease.

Actions during 2013

Immediate objectives of the new section during 2013 emphasizes the realization of various research projects and the development of clinical guidelines in collaboration with the Spanish society of Angiology and Vascular surgery. Also, it will launch a project to achieve a better implementation of therapeutic targets and an ambitious training Plan will be created in Arteriosclerosis.

On the other hand, during the celebration of the 26TH National Congress of the SEA, the next 22, 23 and 24 may in Zaragoza, there will be a new meeting of the section of secondary prevention and high Cardiovascular risk that will be aimed at all health professionals involved in this group of cardiovascular diseases.

Arteriosclerosis and secondary prevention

Arteriosclerosis is a disease process that involves the hardening of the arteries and the appearance of lesions (atheroma plates), which can cause the interruption or reduction of the circulation of blood (ischemia) and lead to a myocardial infarction, angina pectoris, cerebral vascular accident or ischemia of the lower extremities.

In people who have already suffered from any of these pathologies, actions to prevent reoccurrence further complications are included in what is known as secondary prevention ”. I.e. it’s actions in order to avoid new episodes of the disease.
