The WTO renews the composition of its Central Committee of deontology.

Spain, January 2013.- the General Assembly of the Spanish Medical Association (WTO), in its meeting of last Saturday, January 19, has undertaken the renovation of five of the 12 members that make up the Central Ethics Commission of the WTO, after the convocation of elections announced on November 13, 2012.

On a total of 14 candidates presented a proposal from different colleges of physicians, have been chosen by vote of the Assembly: Maria Castellano Arroyo, Professor of forensic medicine, proposed by the College of physicians of Granada (37 votes); Antonio Labad, psychiatrist, proposed by the College of physicians of Tarragona (36 votes); Julio García Guerrero, medical prison, proposed by the College of physicians of Castellón (31 votes); Joan Monés Xiol, gastroenterologist, proposed by the medical schools Council of Catalonia (27 votes); and Manuel García del Río, pediatrician, proposed by the College of physicians of Malaga (21 votes).

Of these five members, three renewed their stay by another four years on the Commission, such as the Spanish doctors, García Guerrero and Mones. New addition are, therefore, doctors Labad and Garcia del Rio.

“Once elected the five new members, they will pass to take possession of his charge, and then held a plenary session to appoint its new Permanent Committee, comprising the President, a Secretary and two vowels”.

The Central Ethics Commission is a technical Commission of the WTO which deals with all matters related to ethics and medical ethics and, among his most significant works of the last years highlights the current code of ethicsadopted by the Assembly of the WTO in July 2011. Other recent works include the statement about ethics of sedation in agony ”, how to give bad news in medicine ” or medical care at the end of life ”, this last presented to the World Medical Association (AMM).

If in 2011 was updated and published the code of medical deontology, 2012 was the year of the Manual of ethics and medical ethics, a work that develops more complex items of the 66 that configure the existing code of ethics, and facilitates the acquisition of skills for the correct interpretation and applicationon the same.

Promote and facilitate Spanish doctors training in ethics as well as to members who join the ethics commissions of the medical colleges is one of the main missions entrusted to the Commission during 2013.

To this must be added the elaboration by the Commission of international scope documents, whose texts are proving to be very successful in organizations such as the World Medical Association.

National commissions of the specialties

WTO General Assembly also chose their representatives for the national commissions of the specialties of Pathology, thoracic surgery and obstetrics and Gynecology at this meeting of January 19.

Dr. Carmen Lobo, Vice President of the Medical Association of Guipuzcoa and pathological anatomy of the Donostia Hospital specialist was designated for pathological anatomy.

For thoracic surgery, the doctor Félix. F. Fernández Heras, first of the Medical College of Valladolid and Medical Assistant Vice President of the service of thoracic surgery of the Hospital Clínico Universitario de Valladolid.

For Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Manuel Ramón Delgado, vocal of hospitals in Soria and section of the unit head of mammary pathology of the Hospital of Soria.
