-the dental students of the universities of Madrid this week will be in charge of transmitting the importance of oral prevention as an essential part of the health

-smoking as risk factor for oral cancer, complications that can cause the piercing or the influence of dental problems in sleep disorders, they are some of the topics on which you want to have an impact

– it is estimated that more than 2,500 students from five universities which teach dentistry will participate in the campaign

-this initiative has, once again, with the support of the Health Ministry of the community of Madrid and the collaboration of Colgate and Oral-B

Madrid, April of 2013- began the second edition of the week of the oral health – Oral Hygiene week, organized by the College of dentists and stomatologists of Region I (COEM) through his Foundation (FCOEM), in collaboration with all Madrid universities that offer studies in dentistry (Universidad Alfonso X El Sabio(, Complutense University, European University, Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, Universidad San Pablo CEU). With the slogan do really you brush well teeth? ” aims to encourage healthy oral hygiene habits and work on prevention, within the own University campus. The campaign also recalls the importance of regularly going to the dentist.

This campaign aims to educate future professionals of Odontology of the essential role of society as transmitters of the importance of prevention as a fundamental part in a proper health of patients, as well as the need to maintain appropriate habits of hygiene for the success of any treatment, says Dr. Marisol Ucha, Vice President of the COEM. For this reason, from the faculties of dentistry shall be participant students of other faculties in the campus, as well as the staff of the educational community, moving them this message and inviting them to participate in lectures, workshops and other activities organized. Prevention, as well as an important health measure, is a way of avoiding future treatments more complex and therefore more expensive, ”, adds.

We also want future dentists feel is responsible in helping their patients to quit smoking, since oral cancer can prevent or reduce their impact if the patient not smoking at the same time improving your oral health; transmit complications involving the piercing as well as the role of the dentist in sleep disorders ”, concludes Dr. Ucha.

Se estima que más de 2.500 estudiantes participen en esta iniciativa que celebra este año su segunda edición y que cuenta con el apoyo de la Consejería de Sanidad de la Comunidad de Madrid. Colgate and Oral-B are collaborating in the campaign.

The Foundation CÓEM (FCOEM)

The CÓEM Foundation, established by the Governing Council of the CÓEM, aims to improve health dental of all the inhabitants of the community of Madrid. This has a strategy long based on four fundamental pillars: education oral for the general population, achieving an optimum level scientific and healthcare professionals, provide information and assistance to the most disadvantaged and promote research.

COEM Foundation is also a space for meeting and participation of all sectors of the dental profession, necessarily involved and stewards of the oral health.

On the CÓEM

The College of dentists and stomatologists of the 1st Region (COEM) is the professional association that brings together all the dentists of the community of Madrid and the provinces of Ávila, Ciudad Real, Cuenca, Guadalajara and Toledo. It currently has close to 8,000 members.

The CÓEM is responsible for the management of the profession of dentist and their institutional representation, and also focuses on defending the professional interests of the collegiate, protect the rights of consumers and users and performs important social work, with the ultimate goal of improving the population oral health.
