-the Sevillian pharmacy goes one step further in supporting those affected by these diseases with a charity cocktail held tomorrow at the Hotel Alfonso XIII and whose benefits are entirely destined for research into new treatments for these pathologies

Seville, January 2013.- on Friday, January 18, at 21.00 hours, the College of pharmacists of Seville and its foundation of medicines orphans and rare diseases (Mehuer), held in the Hotel Alfonso XIII a charity cocktail whose fund-raising will be devoted entirely research into new treatments for rare diseases and during which will be reading the Seville Declaration III on orphan drugs and rare diseases, in support of the demands of patients affected by this pathology and their relatives. Commissioned to make reading it will be the model Sandra Ibarra, President of the foundation of the same name dedicated to the fight against cancer. The presentation of the Act shall be borne by the journalist and Communicator Sevillian Solomon Hachuel.

In the world there are about seven thousand diseases classified by who as rare ” or rare, the majority of which require very specific diagnostic and therapeutic procedures that are almost always non-existent or inaccessible. That deficit, coupled with other problems, such as lack of social awareness and the absence of a specific health intervention model for these pathologies, leaves these patients and their families in a truly difficult situation.

Decided to inform and sensitize society about the reality of these sick orphans of treatment and support to the extent of its possibilities, the College, always in collaboration with the Spanish Federation for rare diseases (FEDER), has been developing since the year 2000 initiatives: five international conferences (the VI will be held from 14 to 16 February next in Seville); research grants; campaigns of social awareness and, finally, the creation of the Mehuer Foundation, which has managed to involve prominent personalities and institutions of Sevillian and Andalusian society.

Is a work of which we are proud and which we are determined to persevere despite the difficult economic situation, why appeal to the solidarity of all, where each one can, so you can move forward in research and treatments for these diseases to develop ”says the President of the College of pharmacists and the Fundación Mehuer, Manuel Pérez. Already in 2009 and 2011, the College boosted the reading of the I and II Declaration, with a very remarkable success of accession and commitment from the city and its institutions.
