Córdoba, March 2012.- the partnership Cordobesa Spondylitis sufferers (ACEADE) presented on Saturday in the National Parador of Arruzafa translation and updating of the book ankylosing espondilitis: the facts ”, Dr. Asim Khan. The work, which thanks to ACEADE is available in Spanish, is a work of reference in spondylarthritis for patients worldwide. The Andalusian rheumatologist Eduardo Collantes, Professor of the University of Córdoba and head of the service of Rheumatology of the Hospital Reina Sofia of Córdoba has participated, along with members of ACEADE, in translation, adaptation and updating of the work for his Edition in Spain.

According to Dr. Collantes, this work is set to provide valuable practical information for the patient. It is a direct contribution to the improvement of their quality of life, as the figure of the informed patient ” has a direct impact on the doctor-patient relationship, making it more fluid and more effective. Reading this book will improve the patient’s ability to face the disease, its diagnosis and its treatment as it offers all the necessary tools to be introduced and, therefore, better understand their disease ”.

The participation of Dr. Collantes has been essential to include the latest developments and findings in the field of the spondylarthritis, such as the current status of diagnostic techniques and the latest therapeutic options available for the treatment of these pathologies.

As well as Chief of the Rheumatology service of the Hospital of Córdoba, he was Professor of Rheumatology at the University of Paris, he has been Deputy Director of teaching and research of the Hospital Universitario Reina Sofía of Córdoba and is a professor in the University of Córdoba. At the end of 1999, he participated in the creation of the Group GRESSER (Group for the study of the Spondylarthritis of the society Spanish of Rheumatology) and is responsible for the project REGISPONSER (registration of Spondylarthritis SER).

Furthermore, was one of the specialists who took part in the creation of the handles work group (Assessment in Ankylosing Spondylitis, by its acronym in English), an international group consisting of members from 21 countries that includes experts in spondylitis, epidemiologists, representatives of the pharmaceutical industry and patient leagues, and has an important scientific and methodological activity.

For his part, Professor Muhammad Asim Khan is a Professor of medicine at the Case Western Reserve University Cleveland (EE.)(UU.) and he is regarded as one of the most recognized experts in the field of the spondylarthritis. In addition, his experience as a patient of Spondylitis (since age 12) in each of the phases of the pathology, gives the book a two-pronged approach: one from the point of view of the specialist and the other from the perspective of the patient, solving doubts when dealing with pathology. together with Prof Collantes participated in the creation of the Group handles.
