Barcelona Digital leads the European project of r & d SAAPHO.

an ICT tool to help older people to control their health and their security.


-r SAAPHO, led by Barcelona Digital project will develop an ICT platform for older persons, adaptable to the limitations of each. It will help this group to have access to health services, home security and participation in society to avoid social exclusion. SAAPHO supports the recommendations of the policy of active ageing of the World Health Organization

– with a budget of EUR 3 M project features prestigious partners, notably the Fraunhofer Institute, reference in Europe in the field of applied research, as well as the Institute of aging of the UAB. It is framed in the Ambient Assisted Living programme, promoted by the European Commission, and will take place over 3 years

Barcelona, December of 2011.- help to them people older to maintain an activity physical adequate and a diet healthy, alert them in case of leak of gas or of fire in his home or facilitate them the communication with their family, friends or caregivers by technologies digital are some of them objectives that pursues the project SAAPHO (Secure Active Aging.(: Participation and Health for the Old). The European project of research and development, led by the Barcelona Digital Technology Centre, is oriented to the creation of an ICT for older persons platform that will help them to monitor their health, the security of your home and to avoid social exclusion through the latest technological developments. The platform will be customizable and adaptable to the limitations of each person, by means of artificial intelligence algorithms.

Thus, the project follows three priorities – health, security and participation – “Active ageing” policy driven by the World Health Organization (who) to improve the quality of life and autonomy of older persons.

In particular, the project will develop tools intelligent, intuitive and easy to use through fixed touch devices and mobile devices that allow access to services such as:

-health services: support to the user in the prevention of health problems, the promotion of healthy habits and monitoring critical indicators for people with some condición chronic monitoring physical activity to avoid a sedentary lifestyle, considering blood glucose levels and blood pressure and giving personalized advice for healthy living, among other services.

-security services: control of environmental parameters (gas fire, CO2, temperature, presence, etc.) to assist the user in case of emergency.

-participation services: personalised access to communication tools to offer voice services, share photos or play with family members, friends, caregivers, etc

Consortium

The project co-ordinator is Barcelona Digital Technology Centre. The Consortium is formed by the Fraunhofer Institute (Germany), Technosite (Spain), Cypak (Sweden), aibis (Germany), ZDUS (Slovenia), Touchtech (Sweden) and the Institute of the ageing of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (Spain). The project has a budget of EUR 3 million, promoted by the European Commission in the framework of the Ambient Assisted Living Joint Programme, and will run over 3 years.

Barcelona Digital has extensive experience in the coordination of international project (for example, currently coordinates two projects of the 7th framework programme, BrainAble and Synergy-COPD, both in the field of ICT applied to health). In their work of coordination of the project SAAPHO, Barcelona Digital will provide lessons learned from previous projects as well as their ICT experience in the field of security and the participation of users. In this way, the Centre will focus on the application and research of technologies related to the intelligent environments (Ambient Intelligence) and advanced user interfaces.
