-the nanofármacos increase its efficacy and reduced side effects, to apply specifically to the affected area

-the CIPF has a laboratory devoted to the study and design of polymer terapéuticos

– the month of may the CIPF host the IX International Symposium on polymer Therapeutics

Valencia, February 2012.- Research Center Prince Philip today welcomes the seminar (s) nanomedicine (s) under the microscope ” taught by Professor Ruth Duncan, visiting professor of CIPF and the University of GreenwichProfessor of cell biology and Professor Emerita of the University of Cardiff.

This internationally recognized scientific is the first researcher who moved to clinical practice the first conjugated polymer (nanomedicinas) for use as anticancer in the 1990s. He has devoted his scientific career to the study of the design and behavior of these compounds applied to the fight against various diseases.

Ruth Duncan, invited by the researcher Mª Jesús Vicent, analyse in his talk the past, present and future of the nanomedicinas, drugs prepared to enhance its efficiency, to refer specifically to the area of the body affected by the disease, and reduce this way side effects.

As Duncan, the future of nanomedicine is by the use of emerging Nanomaterials and new hybrid technologies, and the opportunities to improve diagnostics, surgical instruments and tools that reveal the molecular basis of disease through Nanomaterials and the knowledge acquired in nanofármacos ”.

Traditional chemotherapy treatments have been one of the most favored by the benefits of these new nanofármacos. The field of nanomedicine, as nanotechnology applied to health, has experienced an exponential development in recent times and is one of the most emerging areas in the discovery of new drugs. Expectations in this field of study are based on their potential to design more effective drugs and treatments individualized for each patient.

Currently, around 40 nanofármacos of first generation are already in hospitals available to the patient, such as nanoparticles of iron in anaemia treatments, anticancer Liposomes, polymeric against multiple sclerosis drugs and conjugate polímero-proteína against infectious diseases.

The seminar taught by Professor Duncan was part of the scientific seminars of the IPPC, known as IPPC FRIDAYS, held every Friday and they constitute a meeting forum among experts for the promotion and dissemination of scientific culture.

Pioneers in the research of safe and effective nanofármacos

The laboratory of polymer Therapeutics of CIPF, directed by Mª Jesús Vicent researcher, is dedicated to the study and pursuit of these compounds. The research activity of the group is focused on the development of conjugated polymer, new nanomedicinas with application in therapy anticancer (particularly in the treatment of tumors hormonodependientes like breast or prostate); and in regenerative medicine (repair and regeneration of tissues, including cardiorregeneración and Neurodegeneration).

Also, the current guidelines of the laboratory are aimed at transport of anticancer targeting new molecular targets and their combination, to the development of new and complex polymeric with defined structure materials and treatment of diseases other than cancer.

Celebration of the IX International Symposium on polymer Therapeutics: from the laboratory to the clinic

Organized by the laboratory of polymer Therapeutics in collaboration with Professor Ruth Duncan, CIPF host next month of may the IX International Symposium on polymer Therapeutics. This international symposium of held every two years in the CIPF, and is considered by the scientific community as the most relevant on the subject. It will feature more than forty speakers of international renown in the field, and attend more than 200 experts from around 20 nationalities.

In its programme, scientists will share their latest research and its vision on the field of therapeutic polymers in an interdisciplinary context, as well as the latest developments in polymer technology. Industrial and medical progress in the transfer of therapeutic polymers into clinical practice will also be addressed.

According to its Organizer, Maria j. Vincent, is a platform of interdisciplinary discussion in which a year more will gather chemists, pharmacists, oncologists, clinicians and other professionals of various branches of knowledge, from around the world ”.
