Madrid, February 2013- the Spanish Confederation of people with physical disability and organic (COCEMFE)on the occasion of the European’s equal pay day which was held on 22 February, he wants to present the situation of clear disadvantage faced women with disabilities in the labour market.

Women with disabilities receive income by 32.9% less than men with disabilities, this wage gap is a fact that demonstrates the inequality within the Group of disability and is one factor of the multiple discrimination facing it.

Inequality is also present in activity and rates of unemployment of women with disabilities, in comparison to the general population and the men in this sector.

While in recent years the women with disabilities have slightly improved their access to the labour market, their situation is still much worse than that of men with disabilities and an abyss of the population in general ”, explains the President of COCEMFE, Mario García.

COCEMFE wants to highlight the importance of continue applying policies of positive discrimination that help to reduce wage differences between men and women, committed to true integration in higher education and the ordinary labour market and promoting this collective access to senior management positions.

For this reason, COCEMFE considers it necessary that the Special Plan for no wage discrimination between women and men, which prepares the Ministry of health, social services and equality, incorporate women with disabilities as a collective priority action with the objective of ensuring effective equality of persons who are at a greater disadvantage within the Group of disability.
