Madrid, 2011-October yesterday Thursday 20 October from 8.30 hours, took place in the Hotel A Quinta da Auga, in Santiago de Compostela, the 1st Forum of transplantation in intensive care, which will feature leading experts in the field of critical care of the 7 main Spanish hospitals with activity in the area of organ transplants.

The transplants in intensive care Forum, organized by Dr. Jordi Rello, head of intensive care service of the Hospital Barcelona Valle Hebron University , is accredited by the Centre for research in biomedicine in lung disease network ( CIBERES ), dependent of the Instituto de Salud Carlos III (Ministry of science and innovation) and sponsored by Astellas.

This forum was created with the intention of having continuity and to serve as a communications network in order to launch initiatives of scientific interest and become a forum for discussion of the problem that arises in the care of patients transplanted during the postoperative period in intensive care units.

This 1st Forum focused on the lung transplant and it counted with the presence of Dr. Marcos Restrepo, pulmonologist in the Veterans Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, USA, which introduced the American experience and revised infectious complications of lung transplantation at UCI.

Intensive care units play an important role in the postoperative period of lung, liver and heart transplant patients. This forum was created with the intention of improving communication between practitioners involved in your care and facilitate the implementation of initiatives to improve the treatment as well as knowledge of the situation in Spain epidemiology, Pharmacotherapy, predictors of efficacy and benchmarking of best practices.

During the Forum showed the results of a collaborative research project, and Dr. Rello presented proposals to launch, at least two cooperative research projects in the ICU lung transplantation. “ Acute respiratory failure in lung transplantation may be due to primary graft dysfunction, humoral rejection, cellular rejection or lung infections. Brussels, 2011-October the past Wednesday 19 gathered in Brussels politicalpatients and experts in health and labour of the Fit Coalition for Work Europe to add their voices to the associations of patients from all over Europe in order to reduce the economic burden of annual spending from 240 billion euros in musculoskeletal diseases for European society.

Lech Walesa, former President of Poland and recently appointed Ambassador of the project Fit for Work, has been one of the attendees at the III Conference annual Fit for Work. “ More than 100 million Europeans suffer from chronic musculoskeletal pain. Of these, more than 40 million are workers, 40% of whom have had to leave his job because of his pathology. This is unacceptable in the 21st century, when matters as simple as early and coordinated intervention at the national level can improve the lives of these people ”.

The Conference of the project Fit for Work Europe had also stressed the importance of the latest research showing the impact of Diseases Musculoskeletal in Europe’s largest population, a group also threatened by rising levels of unemployment.

In Europe, these diseases are responsible for almost half (49%) in the EU. Éstas permanent labour and 60 per cent of disabilities work absences, and other socio-economic consequences of not having a State of health adequate due to musculoskeletal pain, they represent a cost estimate for the European society of up 240 billion euros.

A truly effective policy and practical changes at the national level will be only the result of the unification of evidence in the management of such diseases. In particular, the plan of action on musculoskeletal pathologies must:

-assign the appropriate funding for the diagnosis early and treatments.

-set the “ stay at work ” as a measure success in handling these clinic diseases.

-support the inclusion of labour productivity (e.g., social costs) in the assessment of the economic health and technology health.

Madrid, October 2011.- yesterday, October 20the national day of ankylosing spondylitis, a pathology framed within the spondylarthritis was held and which has a high rate of failure of the patient. For this reason, the Coordinator, Spanish associations Espondilits, CEADE took the celebration of this day to insist on the importance of awareness and information about this disease, to reduce the social and labour impact ankylosing has the patient and their environment.

Ankylosing spondylitis is a degenerative disease in which the vertebrae, tend to be welded together, resulting in limitation of mobility. In these diseases, the diagnosis and treatment are early keys to avoid inflammation, which can lead to long-term joint destruction and thus inability. In addition, in this type of disease, a patient informed and active is vital to achieve the maximum adherence to treatment (drug and non-pharmacological), resulting in an improvement in their quality of life.

For Isabel Rivero, President of the Coordinator Spanish of associations of Espondilits, CEADE, “ the spondylarthritis are diseases whose diagnosis leads to a great impact on the patient and their environment.
