For a healthy heart.

For a heart healthy.

on world heart day Hospiten Estepona conducted a campaign to raise awareness in the Centre commercial La Cañada in Marbella.

Estepona, 2011-October On September 30, at the shopping center La Cañada, Hospiten Estepona staff conducted a campaign to sensitize the population about the importance of caring for the heart and how to do it.

With the slogan, “ for a healthy heart ”, were encouraged the population to take healthy habits, giving passers-by with a few blocks. With this action, the service of Cardiology Hospiten Estepona, intends to send a positive message to encourage good practices, such as vegetables, fruits and fish to include in our diet.

cardiovascular diseases constitute one of the most important causes of disability and mortality currently affecting our society. However, as responsible for our health, we can prevent them avoiding a series of risk factors associated with his appearance. With this activity, the cardiology service of Hospiten Estepona tries to the public at large to know better methods to minimize the risk factors, for example, to maintain the controlled body weight and exercise regularly.

With regard to the risk factors, in addition to age and family history, there is a group of external factors that predispose to cardiovascular disease such as diabetes, hypercholesterolemia, hypertension, smoking, eating habits that can lead to overweight or ways of life that predispose to a sedentary lifestyle, stress, etc

El group HOSPITEN is an international health network committed to the provision of a service of highest quality, with more than 40 years experience with fourteen médico-hospitalarios private centres in Spain, Dominican Republic, Mexico and Jamaica, and more than 100 ambulatory medical centresown and associated under the own brand Clinic Assist, annually serving one million patients around the world, with a staff of more than 3,000 people.

Discover a cellular mechanism that impedes the effectiveness of the treatment of the breast cancer

published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

-researchers from CIC bioGUNE, the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School becoming a complex cellular mechanism activated by a protein – HOXB9 – derived an obstacle to the effectiveness of radiation

– the study was published recently in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS)

Bilbao, 2011-October breast cancer still hogging the attention of the scientific community worldwide. As a result, increasingly have more knowledge about the behavior of tumor cells, as well as its relations with the microenvironment that surrounds them. While there are still many unknowns by reveal.

A new study carried out by the laboratory of Dr. María Vivanco, researcher at the unit of Molecular Biology and mother cells of the Centre for research in BioScience, CIC bioGUNE, in collaboration with groups of Zou and Maheswaran Boston doctors, has unveiled one of these unknowns, as a complex cellular mechanism is explains how a protein – known as HOXB9 – manages to avoid the attacks of anti-cancerígenos treatments, such as radiation and prevents that such therapy has the necessary efficiency in certain cases of breast cancer.

The study, published recently in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), and which also helped researchers from the Massachusetts General Hospital and the Harvard School of medicine, shows that cells that express higher levels of the HOXB9 transcription factor have a greater ability to survive the radiation that is offered as therapy for patients with breast cancer.

A complex mechanism initiated by the protein that manages to activate an entire chain of cellular processes that involve different proteins has decrypted – as the ATM kinase, among others – and, ultimately, allowing some cancer cells are more resistant to treatments to prevent the spread of the disease. According to the DRA. Vivanco, “ when the tumor is exposed to radiation therapy, it causes damage to the DNA – phenomenon is known as double-stranded DNA breaks-, giving rise to a cellular response that tries to repair the damage caused in the DNA using another mechanism – called DNA damage response – ”, through the activation of ATM kinase. In this way, it induces the stop of the cell cycle and promotes DNA repair to maintain chromosomal stability.

HOXB9 expression results in an increase in the survival of cells that have been exposed to radiation. This increased resistance is possible due to the acceleration of the response to radiation and its greater ability to recovery after an injury to his DNA. On the other hand, the reduction of the levels of this protein leads to an increase in the sensitivity of cells to radiation. Furthermore, it was noted that growth factor TGFbeta (a HOXB9 diana) is also involved and that HOXB9 power through the activation of the pathway DNA repair of TGFbeta signaling.

Research published now accounts for the continuation of another study conducted last year by CIC bioGUNE, the Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital, which already showed that this same protein (HOXB9) is on-expressed in breast cancer and their expression levels are associated with a high tumor grade.

The SEIMC recalls that it is necessary to be vaccinated every year from seasonal flu.

The SEIMC recalls that it is necessary to be vaccinated every year influenza seasonal.

in order to avoid complications.

-85% of patients who presented a picture of severe influenza requiring hospitalization last year was not vaccinated

-Vaccination is recommended primarily to people who have a greater risk of complications if suffering from influenza

Madrid, October of 2011- the Spanish society of infectious diseases and Clinical Microbiology (SEIMC), which brings together the vast majority of clinical microbiologists and infectious disease specialists Spanishrecommends seasonal flu vaccination each year. The objectives of the strategy of vaccination are: reduce morbidity and mortality, reduce transmission of the virus in the community, and protect the integrity of the health system of our country.

Influenza is a disease transmitted person to person by respiratory droplets produced by coughing and sneezing, or even to speak. Less frequently flu can be transmitted through contact with surfaces or objects with presence of the virus and subsequent inoculation to play your own mouth or nose. Most people could infect others from 1 day prior to the onset of influenza symptoms until 5 to 7 days after the start of them.

The best way to prevent disease is through vaccination. it is recommended primarily to people who have an increased risk of complications in case of suffering from the flu, which can transmit the disease to others who are at high risk of complications and those which, by their occupation, provide essential services in the community.

According to Dr. Elisa Cordero, Member of the SEIMC: “ immunization coverage of last year in Spain in over 65 years of age was 59.9%. It is desirable to increase this proportion, especially if we bear in mind that 85% of patients who presented a picture of severe influenza requiring hospitalization last year was not vaccinated, while in the vast majority of these patients, the vaccine was recommended by belonging to any of the groups at risk ”.

All experts agree that after pandemic produced in 2009 by infection with the influenza virus A (H1N1) it has shown that some diseases, such as morbid obesity, that were not previously included in high-risk groups, have a greater number of complications arising from influenza infection, so also are within risk groups that currently are recommended vaccination.

The population groups who recommends influenza vaccination are:
/
-older than 6 months with chronic diseases or some type of immunodeficiency
-65
-women pregnant
-professionals who provide essential community services
-people who work or live with people at high risk for complications by the flu.

How to prevent contagion

To prevent the contagion is recommended to avoid contact with sick people. Likewise it is recommended that people with influenza remain at home instead of going to school or work as long as the disease. It is advisable to cover the mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneezes. They should wash hands frequently using water and SOAP or alcohol solution. It is necessary to avoid touching the eyes, nose and mouth.

In addition to all this Dr. Jordi Carratalà, Member of the SEIMC recommends: ” lead a healthy lifestyle, sleeping on a daily basis the necessary hours, practicing physical activity according to age and maintaining a rich and varied diet as well as an abundant intake of fluids ”.

About the SEIMC

The Spanish society of infectious diseases and Clinical Microbiology (SEIMC) is a scientific society that brings together professionals working in the field of Infectious Pathology, both from a clinical point of view the etiologic diagnosis, treatment and prevention of infectious processes.

The fundamental purpose of the SEIMC is the promote, encourage and disseminate the study and research of infectious diseases, clinical microbiology, in terms of epidemiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment, prevention and control is concerned, as well as in their interrelations.

Currently with more than 2,600 partners, more than 1,500 correspond to the section of clinical microbiology and nearly 1,150 to that of diseases infectious.
