A pioneering initiative to improve safety in the pharmacies

-the Club of the pharmacy creates the project safe pharmacy, pioneering initiative to reduce the number of thefts and prevent crimes in pharmacies

-The project involves own pharmacists and will inform, discuss and advise on issues of security

-the first activity, already underway, is a survey to all pharmacists have intended to know what they think about the safety of your workplace and what is your personal experience. It can be answered from the website of the Club here

Barcelona, 2011-October threats, insults, theft, robbery with intimidation, damage and assaults are crimes suffered daily by numerous pharmaceutical Spain. offences that too often are seen by the professional as a lesser evil, as a fatalism with which have to settle and live. However, although the pharmacy is a particularly vulnerable business, its security can improve.

So was born the project secure pharmacy. A pioneering initiative created by the Club of the pharmacy of Almirall, S.A. to inform, discuss and recommend to all practitioners of the pharmacy on security issues, and become well in a dynamic space and reference that fill the gap in the sector on these issues.

“ Is the real dimension of the phenomenon that we are interested in. How it affects practitioners, to all those who, how ” ensures Xavier Virgili Abelló, Inspector Chief of police, historian, anthropologist and one of the main promoters of this initiative.

The first activity of the project secure pharmacy, is underway. It’s a survey to all pharmacists and has as objective to know what they think about the safety of your workplace and what is your personal experience. From the website of the Club of the pharmacy it is possible to respond to a series of questions divided into five thematic areas: territory, population and services; The profession and safety training; Pharmacy: security features; Victimization and perceptions of security and the police.

“ State is to sell, but carries a greater risk of theft. With this project, in which we are going to share the experience of all our partners, we seek the pharmacy to improve their sales, but this not involves theft to weaken his trading account ” explains Albert Pantaleoni, Manager of the Club of the pharmacy.

With the aim of making this activity more participatory, own pharmacists may also raise new questions, which will be incorporated in future editions of the survey. In addition, all those who wish to access already on the same website to the first results of the survey. With the analysis of the answers, which will be published in the first issue of the magazine pharmacy Segura, those responsible for the project may be offered the first practical advice to improve the security of the offices of pharmacy.

“ Transmission of news mouth to mouth, comments, rumors and hoaxes, and some media treatments have been able to contribute to the construction of a popular imagery that is far removed from reality. Therefore it is vitally important that we work with certain data and updated of what happens to the Spanish pharmaceutical, produced their own testimonies and experiences ”, stated Virgili Abelló.

Upcoming events

New activities will be incorporated soon into the project secure pharmacy. Interviews, opinions, testimonials of professionals involved with the Pharmacy and its security, compilation of press releases, dissemination of official statistics, regulatory news and specialized lectures … this will be available to all pharmacists from the website of the Club of the pharmacy.

It offer professional resources that are practical and useful, in a direct and easy, way to providing the expertise of professionals related to the security.

In addition, a document of Declaration of intent – which may accede all pharmacies of Spain – will be written in coming days. All the signatories undertake to work every day to improve security and identify them a badge that will be placed on access to the pharmacy.

The technique of microscopic visualization applied in cardiology will reduce late thrombosis after placement of a stent.

The technique of microscopic visualization applied in cardiology will reduce thrombosis late after the placement of a stent.

-(OCT) optical coherence tomography is a technique of diagnosis which allows a very detailed visualization of the arterial wall in a living person. This as accurate visualization was, until now, only possible in autopsy

-La OCT generates images of coronary artery with such precision that facilitates the determination of the stent, so of late thrombosis, very serious complication after the placement of a stent, can be prevented in the almost all cases

-thanks its definition of image, the OCT is being very useful in the development of next generation stents: bioabsorbable drug-proliferative

-with-proliferative drugs bioabsorbable stents to allow thatOnce the stent has carried out its role, it dissolves in the body without leaving remains.

– these advances have been presented at the Congress TEAM (Endovascular therapy and myocardial), which was held in Madrid last week and this year has achieved an attendance record with more than 1,000 specialists in the field

– also have been given the TEAM 2011 awards to the best research projects in interventionism Coronario Percutáneo

Madrid, 2011-October during TEAM, the course of Endovascular therapy and myocardial, which was held last week in the Auditorium of Hotel Melia Castilla in Madrid, has discussed the role of imaging in interventional cardiology techniques and the future of the novel application of one of them, OCT (optical coherence tomography), which allows a microscopic view of the arterial wall in a living person, a previously only possible perspective in autopsies.

The OCT is a technique of optical tomographic image noninvasive high-resolution used hitherto only for ocular pathologies which has recently begun to be applied in coronary intervention.

The OCT, the IVUS (intracoronaria ultrasound), which is a stronger technique that uses sound, unlike emit one infrared light that allows the acquisition, in real time and in situ, of images in cross-sections of the tissues and provides one ten times higher than with the IVUS resolution.

High resolution OCT allows to assess accurately whether a stent has been well fixed to the vein, which reduces the possibility of occurring thrombus later. This technique is still very useful in the development of new bioabsorbable stents, providing accurate data to track the evolution of a stent once it has been placed.

“ This technique will greatly improve the effectiveness of the stent, since the most common complication for the placement of a stent, is the risk of late thrombosis. Now, with the OCT can not only see better how to perform the angioplasty, but it also allows us to better track to it, so thanks to its ability to microscopic observe coronary artery, can detect and act in advance before the appearance of a thrombus ”, emphasizes Dr. Eulogio Garcia, one of the directors of the Group TEAM, belonging to the service of hemodynamics and cardiology Interventional from Hospital Clínico San Carlos in Madrid. “

During the day on Friday, in the debate “ the OCT is the future and will replace the IVUS-FFR OCT ”, gathered experts discussed the role that represents this new technique the already existing; although OCT offers higher resolution, it has low penetration, so that you can only view the image of the outer wall of the artery, while with the IVUS, which has lower resolution but greater penetration, allows a better observation of the plate.

“ Techniques are still very new, but what we are seeing the experts is that the future lies in the combination of both techniques, the OCT and the IVUS, depending on the case. It is true that OCT only allows to see the wall and light of the artery, but it is precisely at this point where they occur the majority of complications that we must try to ”, concludes Dr. Eulogio Garcia. “ the OCT has a great future and still has a long way to go because, to this day, in Spain only occurs in a few hospitals ”.

The new generation of stents

Stents are metallic devices of different designs that are introduced in the coronary arteries and acting underpinning its wall. This prevents occlusion or sudden closure of posterior artery.

Since a few years ago, is are introduced regularly stents farmacoactivos or liberators of drugs (SFA). This type of stents, in addition to the above function, is designed to slowly release the exact dose of medication and, thus, help prevent Restenosis (narrowing of the artery playback). Thus, the drug acts by limiting excessive growth of tissue within the artery.

“ The use of these types of stents to the detriment of conventional, is increasingly common. Thus 100,000 stents placed in Spain each year, 60% are farmacoactivos. Late thrombosis, which was considered a serious problem a few years ago with the farmacoactivos of first generation stents has become one minor problem with second and third generation stents and adequate antiplatelet treatment ”, says Dr. Eulogio Garcia.

Thus, also discussed how it should be these new stents; After evaluating the various studies, the experts have highlighted that many advances in the creation of a stent to release-proliferative drugs and who are also biodegradable, this being achieved way may disappear from the body once have completed its function, reducing also the risk of thrombosis.

“ Are being many advances in this field, thanks to the OCT, since it allows us to know much better stents behavior once are implanted in the body ”, concludes Dr. Eulogio Garcia.

On the same day on Friday, in addition to continuing with the presentation of cases live and session conducting clinical – practices, have been given the TEAM 2011 prizes for the best research projects in interventionism Coronario Percutáneo, in particular, the 2011 TEAM Award for medical researchdelivered to the DRA. Elizabeth Calvo, responsible for the area of Cardiology of the Hospital Universitario Miguel Servet in Zaragoza, and the 2011 TEAM Award for research in nursing to nurse Esther BAS, from the Servicio Extremeño de Salud.

About TEAM

TEAM is the international course of Endovascular therapy and myocardial which this year reached its ninth edition and was held in Madrid from 5 to 7 October. During the course, were thematic symposiums, lectures by experts, meetings for the presentation of case studies, clinical sessions presented real cases and cases live relay. In addition, surrendered the TEAM 2011 awards to projects of interventionism Coronario Percutáneo (ICP) in two categories, medical research and research in nursing, and the prize for the best e-póster in interventional cardiology. day European of the depression.

-improve the patient’s physical condition will reverse an improvement in his mood and emotional state

Madrid, October of 2011- the Deputy of the General Council of schools of physical therapists of Spain (CGCFE), Almansa Núñez, on the occasion of the European depression dayHe reminded that the physiotherapist treatment helps to alleviate physical symptoms associated with depression, contributing to a greater sense of well-being of the patient and, therefore, to a faster recovery.

Depression is one of the main causes of occupational disability in Spain. It’s a disease, especially elderly and women, although the stress we suffer today has made that the average age of persons who suffer has brought forward ten years.

According to Núñez explained, anxiety and depression are more common in today’s society psychological disorders. Both are characterized by psychological symptoms accompanying normally physical symptoms due to an increase in the activity of the sympathetic nervous system, such as retraction and muscular hypertonia, rigidity and limitation of mobility, pain, headaches and dizziness, which leadsIt has highlighted, a worsening of the quality of life of those who suffer from it.

Depression and pain share similar brain mechanisms. In this line, the Deputy of the Council has ensured that depression can be manifested by pain and patients with depression often perceive pain in a more intense way, which is why many patients come to the physiotherapist for presenting pain, without knowing they have.

Psychological treatments help to improve the quality of life of those who have any of these disorders. However, pointed out Núñez, if psychological treatment is accompanied by a physiotherapist treatment to relieve the physical symptoms associated with these disorders, feeling of well-being of the patient will be greater.

Physiotherapy techniques used in this type of disorder are the basal body awareness therapy, psychomotor therapy, massage therapy, multisensory stimulation, postural re-education, craniosacral, induction myofascial therapy and other complementary therapies, has stressed, at the time that it has stressed that “ improve the patient’s physical condition will reverse an improvement in his mood and emotional state ”.

CGCFE

The General Council of physiotherapists schools of Spain (CGCFE) is the body that represents more than 40,000 physiotherapists, in Spain, dealing with the common goal of promoting the health of citizens. In addition, orders the profession, guardianship the interests of physiotherapy, as well as its optimal implementation and universalization.
