study on the impact of pain in life labor.

-A recent article promoted by PAIN CHANGE analyzes the relationship between pain and labor framework based on three dimensions: membership of the employed population, the decline in performance in the workplace and absence from work through the analysis of data derived from the survey “ National Health and Wellness Survey ” of Kantar Health.

-is the first time that accurate data on the influence that has pain in the Spanish work habits are known

– according to this article, one in five Spanish with severe pain may not work for this cause

-patients with severe pain are reduced his work performance up to six times more than workers who do not suffer

-connection to absence from work, people with daily pain are absent up to 16 times its working

-article “ The association of pain with work force participation, absenteeism, presenteeism in Spain and ”, which includes the analysis of data from the online study “ National Health and Wellness Survey ”, has been published in the December issue of the journal “ Journal of Medical Economics ”. On the website of CHANGE PAIN ( www.changepain.org ) see the abstract of that article in the section of “ studies CHANGE PAIN ”

-this study concludes that pain is the main reason for absenteeism than other disorders such as diabetes or cardiovascular disease

Spain, January 2012- CHANGE PAIN makes available to the scientific community this publication on the relationship between the intensity and frequency of the pain and the work of the Spaniards, taking into account three factors: participation in the labour market, the decline in performance in the workplace and work absenteeism.

According to the conclusions drawn from this study, severe pain is positioned as the main reason for absenteeism than other disorders such as diabetes or cardiovascular disease.

According to Dr. Miguel Angel Ruiz Iban, the service of trauma and orthopaedic surgery at the Hospital Universitario Ramón y Cajal, “ this study allows us, for the first time to obtain precise data on the influence that has pain in the Spanish work habits and work in Spain. This gives the opportunity to specialists to know the real impact of pain on labour ”.

With regard to participation in the labour market, one in five Spanish who suffer from severe pain may not work because of this pain, forcing many of them to be excluded from the labour market. Among those who suffer this type of pain and that work, there is a higher percentage making it on time partial, if pain prevents them from working full-time. In addition, rare are those who work as self-employed.

On the other hand, Dr. Ruiz Ibán points out that “ the current economic situation makes that persons suffering from pain of mild to moderate form continue to maintain a similar to the general activity, for fear of losing his job ”. This circumstance could lead to an increase of presenteeism in the workplace, its performance to be less because of pain.

in fact, analyzing the data regarding the presence in the workplace with a low yield, concludes that people with severe pain reduced his work performance 6 times more than people who suffer no pain or suffer you from mild form to moderate.

Also, statistics concerning absenteeism provide the most revealing data. People with daily pain are absent from their jobs up to 16 times more than the rest of respondents.

This study is part of others promoted by CHANGE PAIN in order to raise the health community and society in general medical needs still unmet in the approach of severe chronic pain. According to the conclusions of the same, the pain has a big impact in all aspects of the labour market, since access to the quality of their work, “ which reinforces the importance of its adequate boarding and treatment in order to improve the quality of life, both as working personally, of the patient ”, emphasizes Dr. Miguel Ángel Ruiz Iban.

El General de Castelló held a workshop for endoscopy with models anatomical.

– is aimed at resident doctors, Assistant doctors, nurses and assistants of the endoscopy unit

-In the workshop were instructed in the placement of prosthesis or esophageal dilation balls, among other advanced techniques

Castellón, January 2012- the digestive Endoscopy Unit of the Hospital General de Castelló has organized a workshop with anatomical models for physicians in training, Assistant doctors, nurses and assistants.

Activity, organized by physicians Dr. Colom and Dr. Martin, consisted in that health professionals can practise advanced endoscopy, which involve technical difficulties and techniques of management in patients with an artificial anatomical model that simulates the inside of the human body.

The most advanced techniques, that only certain endoscopistas are capable of and that health professionals can practice, include the placement of prosthesis, esophageal, colorectal and Enteral.

The inclusion of the prosthesis is made by endoscopic control through a thread Guide, which introduces after delaying the narrowing of the digestive tract. Thus, at the point of occlusion, prosthesis is released so that it expands spontaneously, causing a strain in the area and being embedded within the body.

In addition, attendees at the workshop have able to practice with latest generation materials, carrying out practices with bands for esophageal varices, sclerotherapy needle, hemoclips, metal stents and balloons of dilation, among others.

They reward the research work in cardiology from the Hospital Puerta de Hierro.

Reward research work in cardiology of the Hospital Puerta de iron.

the Royal National Academy of medicine.

– the award Dr Cardeñosa is awarded for the best article in cardiology published a Spanish doctor

– work had been done in collaboration with professionals from various services of the hospital

Spain, January 2012.- article “ Desmosomal protein gene mutations in patients with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy undergoing cardiac transplantation: to clinicopathological study. ”, published in the journal Heart by Dr. Pablo García-Pavia, Coordinator of the unit of cardiomyopathies in the service of Cardiology of the Hospital Puerta de Hierro Majadahonda, has been awarded the prize Doctor Cardeñosa of the Royal National Academy of medicine.

Cardeñosa Doctor Award is awarded to the best article in cardiology published a Spanish doctor throughout 2011. Dr. García-Pavia has picked up on Tuesday this award during the solemn session of opening of the current academic of the Royal National Academy of medicine.

Award-winning work studied the prevalence of mutations in the genes desmosómicos among transplant patients of heart for idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). The study included 89 patients transplanted by MCD and determined that a significant proportion of them had mutations in the genes that encode for proteins of cardiac desmosome. The work has been in collaboration with members of the services of Cardiology, biochemistry, Immunology and pathological anatomy of the Hospital Puerta de Hierro and the unity of family heart of University College London.

Although more than 25 years it is known that the MDC has a genetic basis in many cases, the incorporation of genetic studies on the practice has been heavily limited by the low profitability of the study of genes associated with this disease have been described to date. The results of the award-winning work suggest that the analysis of desmosómicos in patients with DCM genes, can improve significantly the efficiency of genetic studies in these patients.

Very few works had analyzed the genetic characteristics of transplanted patients of heart beforehand. This study is the more widely studied cardiac transplant patients cohort genetically described to date includes histological analysis of explantados hearts and presented an extensive family study histological findings and family study allow to know relevant data in the MCD caused by mutations desmosómicas and raise important questions about the histological and genetic diagnostic criteria of the Arritmogénica right ventricle, another cardiomyopathy also caused by mutations in the genes desmosómicos and much more uncommon cardiomyopathy.

more than 600 patients have already been seen in this unit

the unity of cardiomyopathies in the Hospital Puerta de Hierro Majadahonda is a multidisciplinary unit attends to patients suffering from these diseases and are submitted for all Spain. In her work in a coordinated manner cardiologists, nurses, surgeons, paediatricians and biochemists to meet the needs of the afflicted families of these pathologies from all points of view.

This Unit coordinates genetic studies for patients and families requiring it in such a way that in the past 2 years more than 600 people have been subjected to these tests in the Center
